Surgeon uses both Ableton and Traktor durring his sets unless he's moved entirely over to ableotn now. for those in the UK he's playing one of those kller sets t plastic people this thursday i believe. for another great surgeon set you can listen to his live set from Werk in the player @ werk-it.com

ok, this could be obvious but it's worth saying.

have you adjusted the preferences in Live 4 to use the audio in from what ever sound card you are using? second, have you record enabled an audio track and set it the channels input to "external in"?

ok, make a copy of your file. remove all your VST and AU from their folder and try opening you file. if it opens up without loading the VSTs then you have a VST issue. put them back in the folder one at a time and try opening your file to you find which VST is the problem. if my memory serves me, the U-428 is a soundcard with a control surface built in, so no you would not need another soundcard unless you wanted one.

can't say much about the edirol as i don't really trust any roland computer stuff.

you could just run it in live man. no need to open cubase just to run a VST.
