Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

Just make sure that it is deep enough for your modules, some have really deep PCB boards hanging off the back!

Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

I will say that the patch panel SEM does appear to have good value for the money and has way more connections than most all-in-ones in the price range. I think it would be a great companion to a Euro setup.

Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

You would not be let down by either at those prices, just depends on your budget and what appeals to you. $80 is nearly 2x the price. Of course my Hertz Donut was $425.

Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

I have a Motu interface, and you do not have to use special cables with it. I'm still thinking of a midi to CV module, just because it's a pain to drag everything out, it gives you a little break out for your cables, and you can use it with midi hardware.

Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

BTW - Beware Plan B stuff (they are basically out of business and have ripped many people off), synthcase (same story), and as I mentioned, I don't really trust MFB. Also - beware that some modules (including ALL Analog Systems brand) use a different power scheme that normal Euro-rack modules. They ...

Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

I think that Asol case is just cheap plastic. I have seen some 9u Doepfer cases go for not much money on Muff's. Also, there won't be any Mission 6's for a while, the 9 is a decent value at $500 though.

Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

^ Make Noise Maths is a hardware module for a euro rack standard modular synth. It is basically 2 attack/release envelopes with variable slopes and voltage control over the attack and release time + 2 invertable level controls (attenuators). The envelopes can self-cycle or be triggered, and go well ...

Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

I can not really recommend MFB, I have seen and read about their equipment malfunctioning and know a few people who have had trouble getting repairs. Modular World now directly sells a 3u (one row) rackmountable case for about $165 shipped with power supply. It's all about research. I think that any...

Re: If I wanted to ease into the modular synth world...

Modular synths are all about getting exactly what you want. Go with modules. I would suggest reading up all that you can (it's a ton of info to absorb), then buying some used modules to start. Modular synths do not act at all like VAs or soft synths. In some ways the suprise is nice, on others - not...

Re: Firebox finally died, thinking of going with MOTU Ultralite

FYI - Although my UL has been fine (if a bit feature bloated and with a relatively poor physical interface), MOTU customer service is horrible. I mean actively not friendly. Like ReFX bad :|

Can't read all of this right now, but I'm sure that someone has already mentioned:

- Improved Stability

- Record modulation in session for native devices

- Open Sound Control native support
