Re: Using External Hard Drives

I went for empty drive enclosures and used drives I already had from a PC with a failed motherboard, so I don't know how the lacie ones compare. I do know that speed tests show my 2014/15 MBPro's 256GB internal drive has over twice the speed of my external SSDs, which seems to indicate that for shee...

Re: Using External Hard Drives

Personally I’d be looking at using one or two Thunderbolt connected SSDs rather than HDDs in any kind of RAID. SSDs have high sequential read/write speed and faster seek times than HDDs. They also use less power, need little if any cooling and are silent. My experience has been that a single SSD can...

Re: Anyone using iMac Pro on Live 10? Strange performance

My interface is RME, not MOTU, but it's my understanding there have been issues with some of the most recent Mac models and USB audio, including MOTU interfaces. There are threads on RME's forum about USB audio issues with some 2018 model Macs. Apple seem to have dropped the ball somehow on this, bu...

Re: how to stop drum machine playing at start of a song

The start/stop behaviour you are seeing is part of how MIDI clock works and how slaved devices respond to it. How a sequencer responds to MIDI clock start/stop etc. commands is usually built into the sequencer and can’t be over-ridden. So if designed to follow the “standard” way of doing things it w...

Re: Trying to find a suitable string orchestra for backing tracks

There are a lot of on-line musical theory courses ranging from OK to excellent and for a wide range of knowledge levels. A good course for someone who knows little (or nothing) about the theory of music, harmony etc. would be too basic to be useful to someone who already knows that stuff and wants t...

Re: Is my latency good enough or should I try to get it lower?

There are three aspects to audio latency. One is the outgoing latency, which affects how long the interval is between playing a note on a controller and a software synth/sampler outputting the relevant audio. The second is the input latency. This is added to the output latency to give the round-trip...

Re: ASIO Volume Help

Under Win10 if I needed to use an on-board PC sound chip which didn't have it's own custom ASIO driver I'd try WASAPI first then ASIO4ALL if WASAPI didn't work well enough. I actually got good results under Win Vista using WASAPI with an Edirol/Cakewalk interface I had at the time. It out-performed ...

Re: Dropout External Instrument - Midi over USB

Is the USB hub powered from an adaptor or the computer’s USB socket? Strange things can happen if a hub’s available voltage is too low, so if your hub is unpowered it might be worth trying a powered one. I’ve a cheap Amazon powered USB2 hub that handles seven MIDI devices, including an iPad Pro, and...

Re: Guitar too loud through monitors

it depends how you are monitoring your playing while tracking (recording). Absolutely. It’s also possible that while recording the guitar is being monitored “direct” through the interface and also via Live because the track monitoring if left at the default “auto” will automatically be set to “on” ...

Re: editing/listening to show file built while connected to interface external outputs... when not connected to interfac

This is one way to do it, at least I've just done a quick test and it seems to work for me. Still a bit messy though, maybe someone's got a better idea. The principle behind this is based on how things are done when working with a hardware mixer feeding monitoring/PA through the main outs and a tape...

Re: Arpeggiator Syncing Issue

Just tested this by setting up an instrument track containing just the arp plugin with your setting and Operator's 101 Bass Sidechain Fuzz patch then added two more arps in tracks feeding a Moog Minitaur and MS-20mini. No problem with the arp sync at all. I'm on a Mac not PC though, running Mojave 1...

Re: MP3 files in Live

Might be worth checking there's enough free space in Live's decoding cache (under preferences/file folder.

I've had Live do unexpected things if that gets full then I try and import an mp3.

Re: Change octave for external synth

I don't have that synth but running the pitch mIDI effect into my synths or recording its output in another MIDI channel results in only the pitch-changed notes being heard/recorded. It might be that the synth is doubling the note because it's reacting to both its own controls and the echoed MIDI be...

Re: Teaming up 2 computers

An interesting idea for those who don't need many inputs but want to connect two computers in an inexpensive way, assuming the drivers are good. Though if you're using Macs you can already send audio and MIDI from iPads/phones using a USB-lightning cable so long as you enable the i-device as an inpu...

Re: Stuck sound - OMG I'm so pissed off

Possible causes of a hanging note off the top of my head. A CC64 command as pottering has suggested. A very long sustain setting in an amplitude envelope. An envelope which triggers the note being played set to cycle continuously and never stop. A delay with high feedback. A reverb such as Eventide ...
