Re: Start Stop messages problem when startin Live 10

MIDI start/stop messages are tied to MIDI clock, so a MIDI start gets sent when the MIDI master clock, usually configured to be the DAW - i.e. Live, is told to play and a MIDI stop when the master clock device is told to stop playing. There is also a MIDI Song Pointer Position (SPP) command which ca...

Re: noob question from non noob user...

At the risk of repeating myself from another thread.....

MIDI note 60 is either C3 or C4 depending on whether the MIDI device in question follows the Yamaha or Roland note-naming convention, both of which go back to the very earliest days of MIDI.

Re: Heaphone/monitor controller question, halp!

. My laptop screen blocks my access to the RME headphone knob and moving things around would alter my work flow bc, my arms reach for this and that. I have mics and guitars within quick grabbing distance to where Im sitting. I hardly ever touch the hardware controls on my RME UFX, as far as I’m con...

Re: Heaphone/monitor controller question, halp!

I don’t know for sure because I’ve never had the Behringer device in question, but I have owned an assortment of Behringer stuff over the last 30 or so years (typing that makes me feel very old...). Some is surprisingly good for the price and, to be honest, some has been rubbish. Personally I wouldn...

Re: Heaphone/monitor controller question, halp!

I've been using the JBL M-Patch 2 for a few years, I like it. It's passive but needs power for the headphone out. I use it because it can switch between big and small monitors and the mono switch is real handy. I guess it's the bigger version of the Nano. edit addition - At this price point I think...

Re: Heaphone/monitor controller question, halp!

JBL give full audio specifications for the Nano Patch. Which are pretty simple because all it does is passively reduce the volume of the audio going through it. Behringer use a lot of nice words but give no figures at all for frequency response, noise levels, cross talk or harmonic distortion. I won...

Re: Please help Ableton Live suite 10

Just had an idea that might work.... If you can hold the wheel in a position where it isn’t sending data then you could try firmly taping it down in that spot so it can’t move. Not ideal of course because you’d lose the use of pitch bend.... Looking back, most of the times I’ve replaced a controller...

Re: Different notes using Akai MPK Mini Play

It’s because many years ago, when MIDI was invented, Roland decided to call note 60 (middle C) C4 and Yamaha decided to call it C3. So there’s two “standard” ways of numbering octaves, and once in a while you find you need to tell something to send C3 when you want whatever it’s connected to to play...

Re: Please help Ableton Live suite 10

Sending pitch bend data when it shouldn't be is unfortunately almost always a sign that the keyboard's hardware has become faulty. What can be done about that at a hardware level depends on the controller. It might be possible to disable pitch bend in the controller's own settings and deal with the ...

Re: Theory Question - Available Chords

I guess it depends on what genre you are writing in and what you want the music to sound like. A blues soloist happily plays A# and F against a backing band playing the chord of G major all the time. So do many jazz and rock musicians. Avante-guard composers tend not to feel very bound by the formal...

Re: Sustain Pedal - Can it be used for incremental CC data?

A sustain pedal is just a non-latching on/off switch. So it sends on and off and nothing else. What might work is an expression pedal, which is a potentiometer in a wah-like body so it can be used as a variable controller. They don’t send MIDI or anything else though. They have to be connected to an...

Re: How to mask / remove / distort a single word in a track?

Assuming you have the vocal on its own track, not just a stereo mix of the whole track, automating the track or clip volume to reduce the volume of the offending word to silence should work. Automating a utility plugin’s gain on the vocal track to do the same thing should also work. Though making th...

Re: External Instrument Monitoring Bug

The only time I’ve had this happen is when I’ve either messed up the signal routing in my interface or in Live.

Or both.

Which I manage to do quite regularly.

Re: Please help Ableton Live suite 10

A question and some thoughts... Does Live’s displayed tempo change when whatever is going wrong happens? Unwanted pitch changes can sometimes come from a MIDI keyboard’s pitch wheel sending MIDI pitch bends when it shouldn’t be. Though tempo shouldn’t be affected by that. A pitch and speed change mi...

Re: Using Elektron Analog Four as external hardware

You won’t see the Analog Four listed as an audio interface because it is not an audio interface.

You need to connect the synth’s audio outputs to the inputs on the interface, which you say you have already done. Then enable the interface’s inputs and outputs in Live.
