Re: Using an external device as mod wheel

Or remap the pedal to CC1 in the synth’s modulation matrix if it allows you to.

Or set up the synth’s mod matrix so whatever CC the pedal controls has the same functions as the mod wheel.

Personally I often use aftertouch for CC1/controlling modulation and the mod wheel itself to do something else.

Re: Question about Ableton and RAM (memory)

Adding RAM won't make a difference unless you are actually short on RAM so the Mac is writing to the swapfile all the time. Run the MacOS Activity Monitor (found in the utilities part of launchpad) and switch to the memory tag. The most important thing to look at is the "memory pressure" section at ...

Re: Surge Protection + Energy Consumption + Master ON OFF

If you're worried about protecting things against mains surges/spikes while they're off you could always unplug them. You won't get better over-voltage protection than that. And don't forget to turn monitors down before switching them off - most don't appreciate the thump caused by switching them on...

Re: Hardware synths that can be automated in ableton

Any analogue synth that’s MIDI controllable is automatable in Live.

There’s lots of them.

Or an actual (hardware) analogue synth rather than a digital emulation. There’s never been a better time for someone into hardware synths.

Re: Most important Instruments/Plugins that PROs use often?

I’d suggest concentrating on getting to understand how Live works first of all, using the stock plugins it comes with. That way you’ll get a feel for what you like about the Ableton plugins and qhat maybe you don’t like so much. It’s really easy to catch plugin acquisition syndrome and before you kn...

Re: Ableton won't play my recordings

Audio inputs and outputs are configured using Live’s preferences, under the “audio” tab. The “first steps” chapter in the manual will guide you through this. If you’re using a Mac the Mac’s Audio/MIDI Studio application should show whatever audio and MIDI devices the Mac thinks is connected to it an...

Re: Link using PC and MAC without internet connexion

One thing to watch for if you use wireless is Windows can sometimes have serious issues regarding audio latency, sometimes to the point audio (and software synth) processing either requires a very large ASIO buffer to avoid crackles and dropouts or even becomes impossible - and third-party wi-fi dri...

Re: Is there any benefit to having 2 SSD ?

RAID is a specialised data storage/handling setup. Don’t worry about it unless you know you need it and why you need it. If you’re curious, Wiki explains how RAID systems work - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID Using two drives, one system and the other for tracking (recording) to is pretty common...

Re: NEED HELP TO FIX MIDI PITCH BENDING ! Live not reading !

so i have to do alter the PB range in Live synths / Instruments , if i change my PB range in my MIDI Yamaha keyboard! or is there any global settings ! What doghouse said is correct. As for changing the settings on the keyboard itself, it’s not an instrument I’m familiar with and there seems to be ...

Re: NEED HELP TO FIX MIDI PITCH BENDING ! Live not reading !

Pitch bend response is a setting that is made in each Live synth, and can be different for every patch. Pitch bend wheels usually - nearly always - send the same range of values no matter what amount of pitch bend a synth/patch is set to, and leave the synth to decide what to do with the data from t...

Re: Recording Hardware and ext SEQs alongside Live ?

Far from “impossible”. I’ve been successfully tracking hardware synths into DAWs for well over 20 years. As have lots and lots of other people. It is quite possible to do, so long as you take account of both the latency introduced by the DAW and the varying processing time hardware needs to process ...

Re: Microphone Armed

I am using a gate. I am running Live Suite 10 with a Push2. Again everything is fine until I hit the arm audio track button and then the channel switches on and picks up everything from the whole block (that’s a joke). It’s almost like the arm button disables the gate. I’ve messed with the threshol...

Re: Start Stop messages problem when startin Live 10

MIDI start/stop messages are tied to MIDI clock, so a MIDI start gets sent when the MIDI master clock, usually configured to be the DAW - i.e. Live, is told to play and a MIDI stop when the master clock device is told to stop playing. There is also a MIDI Song Pointer Position (SPP) command which ca...

Re: noob question from non noob user...

At the risk of repeating myself from another thread.....

MIDI note 60 is either C3 or C4 depending on whether the MIDI device in question follows the Yamaha or Roland note-naming convention, both of which go back to the very earliest days of MIDI.
