Re: Send MIDI OUT from Ableton via USB

You need a USB to MIDI interface. Many audio interfaces have them built in and they are also available as just MIDI interfaces as well. If you want to record audio getting an audio interface is also a very good idea, so you might as well get one with MIDI in and out as well as audio.. Some USB MIDI ...

Re: Software synths for live performance latency

Its rare that a software synth adds a really large amount of latency True, but there are a few which have inbuilt latency of 64-128 samples or so. Such as Waves electric pianos and Codex synth (I’m not picking on Waves, they’re just handy examples because Waves state what the latency of their plugi...

Re: Software synths for live performance latency

Could the software synths or any other plugins used be adding to the total latency? Some plugins have a minimum latency because of how long they need to process audio, sometimes the plugin-induved latency can be considerable Convolution reverbs, compressors with “look ahead” and linear eqs tend to b...

Re: How to separately record Reverb from MOTU UltraLite

You'll need to set up a loop-back in the MOTU so that sound leaving Live gets sent back to Live. How to do that should be in the MOTU's manual. Whether you can record the reverb is down to whether the interface allows it to be sent to the input channels connected to the computer. Again, the manual s...

Re: HELP! Recieving MIDI but no sound.

Assuming the hardware side of things is connected properly, my first thought is to check that the monitoring setting on the relevant MIDI track is set to "auto" not "in". If it's set to "in" Live doesn't play the recorded MIDI, only incoming MIDI. You can hear MIDI you're playing and the recorded MI...

Re: Pitch Bend Range?

The problem is that I can't get the pitch to bend enough! So I'm using a stock sound Instruments/Instrument Rack/Snyth Keys/Mode Amp Sine Bleep. I love that sound after I did a little tweaking. So If I go into the envelopes and choose midi control and pitch bend, it will only let me raise the value...

Re: Routing Audio tacks and Recording Video

I don’t have a focusrite interface so can’t give a step-by-step answer, but in general you need to point Live’s master output at the interface. You then need to set up the interface’s internal mixer to do a “loop-back” so it feeds the output from Live back into whatever inputs Quicktime is using. Th...

Re: Bounce midi to audio for Moog Sub37

An alternative to using an external instrument plugin is a MIDI track to send MIDI to the synth and receive MIDI from it plus an audio track with its input set to whatever audio interface input the Moog (in this case) is connected to. Both approaches have their merits and personal work-flow preferen...

Re: Playing a Track While Recording a New One

Ah. OK. Sounds like you’ve solved the problem. As it happens, I’m useless at trying to record drums using a keyboard as well. Pads can make things easier. I usually have a pair of pads next to each other set to generate snares and another couple doing the same for hi-hats. I find that makes doing fa...

Re: Playing a Track While Recording a New One

If you mean "can Live do multi-track recording and let you hear what you have recorded in a project while recording another track in the same project" then yes. That's Live's default behaviour.

Re: Connect hardware synths

MIDI bank and program change messages can be sent from Live, assuming there's nothing unusual about either synth, but the actual programs themselves will almost certainly need storing on the synth. It might be worthwhile searching to see if anyone has made software editors for the synths, that can m...

Re: Behringer UMC404HD channel bleed on Mac

Sorry for not getting back to this earlier, we had a family emergency that's taken up a huge amount of time over the last week. It's sorted out now, I hope (fingers crossed). Hopefully you've sorted out the cause of your DAW problem by now, but if you haven't the only thing I can think at this stage...

Re: A question about Filter Delay

Here's one way. Create your audio track and put utility and filter delay on it, in that order. Group them to form a rack. Set the filter delay's wet/dry setting to fully wet. In the same rack create a new chain with no processing - that's your unaffected dry signal. Now select the relevant audio cli...
