Re: Behringer UMC404HD channel bleed on Mac

Sorry for not getting back to this earlier, we had a family emergency that's taken up a huge amount of time over the last week. It's sorted out now, I hope (fingers crossed). Hopefully you've sorted out the cause of your DAW problem by now, but if you haven't the only thing I can think at this stage...

Re: A question about Filter Delay

Here's one way. Create your audio track and put utility and filter delay on it, in that order. Group them to form a rack. Set the filter delay's wet/dry setting to fully wet. In the same rack create a new chain with no processing - that's your unaffected dry signal. Now select the relevant audio cli...

Re: Behringer UMC404HD channel bleed on Mac

Do you get cross-talk from the click if you use the Mac’s built in sound? Is there cross-talk involving any sound other than the click? If the Mac’s soundcard makes the problem go away, then there’s your answer for where the cross-talk is coming from. If the problem persists then either the routing ...

Re: CPU overload after SSD upgrade

I was getting over 20% with an empty project and not even playing (i7 2.2GHz MBP, 16GB RAM, all SSD setup). Almost any plugins loaded took Live 10 to over 35% and glitching at a 128 sample buffer (RME UFX). This dropped the idle resource use to 5% and I now don’t get glitching until it hits 70%+. Fo...

Re: Question about polarity/phase flip

I’m kind of confused what you mean, and the point is to have them in the same direction Matching phase is about more than simply taking two wave forms and inverting one of them. Often that amount of phase change can still have enough issues to be a noticeable problem. Sometimes zooming in on a wave...

Re: Question about polarity/phase flip

If you really want to destructively change the phase (or anything else) on a track you can do it by putting utility on it, switching the phase change then resampling the track to another track or record the output of the flipped track to another track - just set the input on a new audio track to the...

Re: CPU overload after SSD upgrade

I remember seeing references to the 2012 MBP sometimes needing a new SATA cable if the drive is replaced. So I did a bit of searching - these links might be relevant. https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/356610/Hard+Drive+SATA+cable+failing+related+to+the+battery+brackets https://www.ifixit.com/Answe...

Re: Is my latency good enough or should I try to get it lower?

I generally record with my RME UFX (using firewire and Apple TB2 adaptor) at 128 samples. I can get lower latency - 32 samples even - but I’m happy with that and any lower really pushes my MBPro hard. 128 gives me latency I can work with and I can run some more demanding plugins when monitoring thro...

Re: Is my latency good enough or should I try to get it lower?

Yes, somewhere between 10 and 20ms latency seems to be where most people start to find problems.

Re: CPU overload after SSD upgrade

A couple of thoughts. You might need to enable TRIM on the SSD to get the best out of it. With Mojave it should happen automatically but it does no harm to check. A quick way to check is to open "about this Mac" and pick the system report tab. In system report open the hardware entry and go to SATA/...

Re: Best setup/configuration for multiple hardware synths/effects

Audio interfaces come at a wide price range. Personally I like RME - excellent sound quality and low latency drivers, rock solid and the company have a reputation for supporting their products well after they are no longer made, but RME are not cheap. Some have good built-in if a bit basic reverb, d...

Re: best audio driver for Mac

OK. I don’t have either a TR or a Behringer interface which limits my experimenting, but I think there’s at least two different things going on in that project. I hope my analysis is correct, but fi it isn’t I’m more than happy for someone to correct me. Sorry this is so long, but there’s a lot invo...

Re: external instrument midi not audible

MIDI is not audio. MIDI is just a set of instructions that tell a device that understands MIDI - a synth, sampler, effect, mixer, lighting rig, whatever - what to do. It contains no audio information or sound at all. To hear audio from your MIDI data you need to send that data to a synth/sampler. Th...
