Re: Direct Monitoring with reverb with 2048 sample hardware buffer size

My 2015 2.2GHz i7 macbook and RME UFX reliably monitors 12 inputs @44.1KHz, 24 bit with a 64 sample buffer with several delays, modulation plugins and reverbs running. But I don’t use lots of demanding software synths and avoid latency increasing or resource intensive plugins until I’ve got the trac...

Re: How to launch several clips in Session view with drum rack

Can MIDI mapping the clips to the computer keyboard with all the clips mapped to trigger from the same key do the job?

Re: Desktop Window Manager GPU Problem

This might be relevant, it’s for Macs but it should be possible to create an options.txt file for Live in Windows.

Worked wonders on my MacBook Pro.

Re: Direct Monitoring with reverb with 2048 sample hardware buffer size

i would be thinking "hardware reverb unit"... So would I. I don’t know if the MTC has the necessary inputs and outputs to patch a hardware reverb into the vocal foldback chain, but if not feeding the MTC monitor/headphone out into a hardware reverb and setting the voice/reverb balance in the reverb...

The Faderfox PC12 MIDI controller might be worth a look.

Re: Which DAW/peripheral

Learning sound engineering, learning a DAW, learning an instrument, learning how to create/compose/write and arrange music are different skills and each does have a steep initial learning curve. Pretty much all the DAWs on the market are capable of turning out good results, and the sonic differences...

Re: Help connecting Korg Volca FM

The FM's effects are stereo? I never realised. Which means I've learned something today which is never a bad thing. Thanks. Phase cancellation can be an issue with any kind of chorus, mono or stereo. Sometimes stereo chorus can sound quite different if the distance between the stereo speakers is cha...

Re: Help connecting Korg Volca FM

The stereo output is intended to let people use headphones (which are almost always stereo). The synth actually ouputs in mono, so left and right outputs get fed the same signal. Which means it sounds like a mono signal. Using an adaptor cable to convert the stereo socket into a mono plug means only...

Re: Help? Using Auto Filter to make a plucky bass

Side chaining probably not necessary. Try this. Drop an auto-filter on the track. Set the threshold (the point at which the incoming sound opens the filter) to a suitable point and adjust the filter’s peak/resonance (different names for the same thing) and decay (if it has one) till it sounds like y...

Re: Pattern sequencers

Any “pattern player” is by definition a sequencer - it outputs a series of MIDI notes, audio samples or control voltages one after the other at whatever tempo it is set to play at. So any pattern player is going to be a sequencer of some sort. There are stand-alone software sequencers, but again onc...

And to those criticising my singing/voice; I'm not looking at a career, I just sing for fun and erhaps to do some fun stuff with my pupils, I know I'm not great. :) Hey, your pitch is good, you're in time, good tone, the words are clear, you sound confident and comfortable with what you're doing (e...

Re: Audio dropouts on MBP'18 + Ableton Live 10

According to RME (on their forum, look for the threads concerning 2018 Macs, start at the end not the beginning) this T2 chip/whatever issue has caused them and other manufacturers a lot of problems with USB 2 interfaces. They've said a day or two ago that the latest Mojave beta from Apple seems to ...

Re: Ableton 10 live, best vocal settings/effects

Suggestions.... Lower the amount of reverb a lot, and narrow its stereo spread. If you’re using a reverb which lets you pick “rooms” try and find one that sounds warm. You can then increase the reverb if you want to emphasise sections of the vocal, but that warm, “in the room” kind of sound uses les...

Re: DOWNLOADING ABLETON & PACKS to new computer with SSD & HDD

There are lots of ways of configuring a DAW and sometimes one persons' best way isn't the same as another persons'. Personally, unless you are doing a complete install of the operating system as well as Live I'd leave plugins where they are and put the samples on the SSD. Plugins only need to be loa...

Re: Suggest what it's worth to record in Stereo

I tend to record stereo sources in stereo, then use Live’s utility plugin or other plugins to reduce the stereo spread, convert the track to mono etc. if I decide it needs it later during mixing. One argument against stereo recording is it uses more disk space, disk throughput and computer overhead ...
