Re: Effects or instruments used to make this sound?

A bit of a late response, for which I apologise. I don’t think it’s chorus. The higher pitched sound is similar to a TB-303 or Bass Station with its filter resonating, which tends to distort at the same time and produce a lot of output which can make the next thing in the chain saturate. The lower b...

Re: Midi tracks get cut off when enabling external clock

This is my current best guess based on the information given. The MIDI protocol says MIDI “start” is sent when the transport starts running and MIDI “stop“ when the transport is stopped. So when the clock source is stopped it should send “stop” and Live should also stop. If an instrument has a patch...

Well, if you really want to know...... This is a fairly straightforward look at the possible space consequences of saving lots of small vs one large file - http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_optimization.htm If you want the full gory details try Wikipedia’s entries on the various file systems. It’s about NTFS...

Re: Clips with follow action duplicate first note

Examine each clip and check where the clip start and end markers and the loop start and end markers are.

Also check you’ve set the time the clip runs before the follow action kicks in are correct.

Re: Struggling with Latency

Another suggestion - try going into device manager and disabling any wi-fi adaptors. Sometimes wi-fi drivers grab Windows’ attention for so long it allows the audio buffer to empty then you get crackling or drop-outs.. If you’ve not done so, download latencymon.exe. It’s a useful tool for finding ou...

Re: Big dilemma! Which gear for electronic music?

If the intention is to create entire tracks in a single piece of hardware then the Elektron Octratack and their other samplers might be with looking at, as might the Teenage Engineering devices. iPads can also be good music creation platforms and are useful in other ways as well if your computer is ...

Re: Ableton micro-installation problem

USB mics usually show up in Live's preferences as audio devices and it may need enabling there.

Are you using Windows or a Mac? It will help people to help you if they know which operating system you are using. Knowing the make and model of the microphone might help as well.

Re: Best alternative to a Keystation 49es - driving me nuts

If you look at the bottom of a track in session view, the pull-down menu which says “all ins” by default can be changed by clicking on it and selecting another option from the list that then displays. Input channel is then selected in the pull down menu below that. It is quite possible to work with ...

Re: High end Mac with poor CPU usage

It doesn’t matter how many cores you have, all it needs to foul things up is one overloaded core. Most software just suspends everything until the most heavily loaded core has caught up, but DAWs don’t/can’t work like that. It’s possible to overload any computer. Maybe nowadays we’re used to running...

Re: High end Mac with poor CPU usage

I wonder if Ableton is maxing out one core and not accessing the other cores on my computer? Not sure if it works on Xeons, but assuming it does Intel’s Power Gadget can be useful to get a better idea of what the cores are doing. A buffer setting of 64 samples sends one of my virtual cores straight...

Re: Soft tube saturation replicated in Ableton

The Softube saturation knob is my favourite digital saturator. I generally don’t like digital saturation plugins because they sound a bit fake compared to analogue pedals, but that one I do like. Setting up an ilok account is easy and if you buy third-party plugins you’ll probably need one eventuall...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly (UPDATE: Possible Fix)

If you’ve not already done so, try this - https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=230967 For some reason Live seems to really stress the Windowserver on Macs with Intel graphics, which in turn puts a big load on the cpu. Dropping Live’s frame-rate isn’t ideal but it quite often seems to fix th...

Re: Live set issues - Ableton based setup w/ hardware synths

Overloaded analogue/digital or digital/analogue convertors in the interface? If an AD or DA convertor goes “into the red” it doesn’t behave like an analogue circuit and gradually get more distorted it instantly outputs harsh noise and nothing else. If the convertor is just going into overload on vol...
