Re: newbie

I’d say to get Suite if the price isn’t a problem. The different Live versions - Intro, Standard, Suite don’t get more and more “advanced” in the sense that each version makes things more complicated, they all work the same way. Each version adds more “stuff” and that stuff can make things simpler t...

Re: How to make horror core/phonk/lofi vocals ???!!!!

A couple of ideas -

Experiment with saturation and distortion plugins and eq after the saturation plugin- the ones in Live’s guitar effects for example.

Also try a bit-crusher such as Redux, and again eq it.

Re: External pedal routing with Lite

Plug guiitar into wah input. Plug wah output into an instrument level input on the focusrite. Set focusrite preamp to a level below where it goes into the red - preferably a few dB below the red, not right up next to it. That should do it. If you want to add wah to something you’ve already recorded ...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly (UPDATE: Possible Fix)

I guess one question has to be whether the 4K screen issue is unique to Live or happens in other applications/DAWs? I could barely run Live on my MBP (i7 quad core, Intel graphics) due to glitching and dropouts until I applied the options.txt frame rate reduction. But Logic Pro X runs without any pr...

Re: CV Tools: Audio interface and cable adapter question.

An interesting module, thanks. It's £170 in my country as well :-)

I don't have a modular at the moment, just an assortment of "semi-modular" synths and a couple of sequencers and guitar fx that can use CV. I do keep getting tempted by modular stuff though.... maybe one day.

Re: CV Tools: Audio interface and cable adapter question.

I have an RME interface and don’t use it to send CV at all (it’s a UFX and they’re not DC coupled). I use 1/4” to 1/8” mono jack leads for both CV between devices and for audio. I note that according to Expert Sleeper’s website they suggest a TRS to TS cable with the ring not connected is the way to...

Re: CV Tools: Audio interface and cable adapter question.

Assuming the MOTU can use mono jacks as well as TRS (and I’ve yet to see or hear of an interface that can’t, a mono jack simply carrying an unbalanced signal) I would expect a cable with a 1/4” mono jack at one end and a 1/18” mono jack at the other should work. They’re easily found on Ebay, at leas...

Re: Rendering stems and clipping

Ask the mastering house/engineer what peak levels they would like to see on the master and set it accordingly. And don’t let the master get into the red under any circumstances. Channels are pretty much impossible to digitally clip even if in the red (though plugins can sometimes clip horribly), but...

Re: External MIDI Routing Problems - Wrong controller CC's going to hardware instrument

The thing causing the problem might well be the external instrument plugin. Try creating two tracks, one MIDI with the Keystep set as input and the track output (on the correct channel) going to the hardware. The other track being an audio track to receive the audio from the synth.

Re: Mac / Live 10 very specific scenario causing audio dropouts

Textedit is a bit strange in how it handles file/text formats. To get it to output "pure" text open a document (or start a new one) then go to the format menu and pick "make plain text". Shift-command-T is the keyboard shortcut for the function. Personally I prefer to open a terminal and use vim for...

Re: Anyone else with performance issues and audio drop in Live 10?

I think the option.txt method of reducing Live 10’s video frame refresh rate to avoid the window server running wild (https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=230967) should apply to any Macs. Though if everything was working OK and now it suddenly isn’t one question has to be “what has recentl...

Re: Mac / Live 10 very specific scenario causing audio dropouts

I assume you mean iMac Pro? This suggestion - it slows Live’s screen refresh rate so reduces the load on the window server - worked for me (I have Intel graphics only) https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=230967 My i7MBP went from Live’s performance meter showing 30% at idle and drop-outs w...

Re: Custom VST folder : how to create it

It’s been almost 5 years since I last used a Windows DAW, so to be honest I’d be guessing why plugins aren’t showing in Live if the path to the relevant folders has been correctly set in preferences. Unless you’re using Live 32 bit which might explain it.

Re: Custom VST folder : how to create it

Do you need to use 32 bit plugins? On a PC running 64 bit Windows you don’t need 32 bit plugins unless you’re using a 32 bit DAW or have plugins unavailable in 64 bit and use a 32 to 64 bit VST bridge (such as jbridge). On a Mac, assuming you’re using a recent OS version, it and Live will be 64 bit ...

Re: MIDI recognized but not useable

Actually MIDI always has a slight latency - usually no more than a few milliseconds but it is there because devices take time to send and respond to MIDI and MIDI is a serial protocol meaning it can only transmit/receive one command at a time so e.g. chords are always very slightly arpeggiated. What...
