I just confirmed this morning that Live runs ok on my bootcamp vista partition *if* Aero is enabled. Otherwise the ui becomes very very sluggish. I guess that confirms what other people have posted here although it sounds like this isn't completely universal.

There's no dedicated amp sim but you can get some similar sounds with the saturator + reverb or delay. Maybe not a true substitute but one of the things I like about working 100% is that it forces me to break some habits and sometimes I come up with better ways to do things I wouldn't have tried oth...

I'd be interested in tips people have for getting more out of the Live effects. For instance, I've found that sticking a 100% wet grain delay in front of the reverb with the random pitch turned up a bit can add a little extra dimension to the reverb. I've been happy enough with this that I've been u...

I haven't gone 100% Live but I have been writing some tracks using nothing but the stuff in Live studio. The two things I miss the most are a good modulatable delay like Fabfilter Timeless and an analog style filterbank like Volcano. I've had some luck replacing Timeless with the grain delay but I c...

Hmm. Thanks for the info. Good to know. I wish I could try one out for a week or something.

Interesting. You're running Vista on it, I assume? From what I've read on this board Live actually performs *worse* without the Aero Glass stuff turned on. This hasn't been the case for you?

I've tried running Live 7 on a couple of other Vista machines and the UI gets really jumpy once the load goes up a bit, as other people have reported here.

After this I'm pretty hesitant to consider any PC that I can't downgrade to XP.

dell xps m1530 experiences

Anybody have any experience running Live 7 on a Dell M1530 under Vista, either 32 bit or 64 bit?

You're probably erasing the first automation curve on the second pass. Try automating them in separate record passes or, better still, use the x-y graph to control them both at once.

From what I understand that's not how it works, the GUI is entirely separate from the code that does the DSP, that part is identical PC/Mac, the GUI stuff is radically different apparently I'm sure that most devs write some kind of wrapper layer around the GUI code so that most of it is the same in...

The main reason to use AU still stands as the reasonably thought out conclusion that the AU version will by nature of it's more robust trouble shooting routines (AU validation and stricter GUI guidelines etc.) have less problems in a host than the VST version. This point has ZERO to do with cross p...

At this point none of the promised benefits of AU have materialized and it's only made more work for developers. I use VST versions because they tend to be more stable and because I can load my sets on a PC if I need to.

If it had that it could quite well be a nice do it all synth.
Don't think of it as a do it all synth and enjoy it for what it does.

Stick with Ableton. Logic isn't worth it if you've already got Live.

If you're curious just grab the demo. It will make a lot more sense once you've actually tried it.
