Re: Weird 2013 Macbook Retina Latency Issue

Yeah...wondering if this could be a Mavericks issue. I'm assuming your new Macbook has OSX 10.9 on it. If so - and you're not running the 9.1 Beta - that might explain the flickering and possibly the latency issue. Also interested in how your sound interface (if you have one) is performing with this...

Touch-enabled Ableton + say, a Yoga II would be awesome.

Re: Tips for rolling off sub-bass?

If the sub-bass is shaking the whole place and dominating the mix, it's definitely too loud. But this is a super-easy fix. Since the track is unmastered, you have the luxury of fixing this problem in the mix. We also know that the problem is the bass, as opposed to the drums (which can also cause th...

Re: Acoustic Guitar recording (How to get that "Tight" sound)

A few thoughts: 1.) Be mindful of the room in which you're recording. If it has a lot of ambient reverb, your mic will pick that up and give your recording more space. On the same token, moving the mic close to your guitar should reduce ambient reverb. 2.) Use a high-pass filter to roll off the low ...

Re: What Mac features are worth the money

Not sure if you're in a position to wait, but Apple will almost certainly be updating their Retina line with the more power-efficient (and slightly faster) Haswell processers later this year. There's also speculation that they might reduce the weight and footprint again. Over at geekbench (http://ww...

Re: Macbook Air 2012 i5 vs 2013 i7 - no CPU meter difference

Does anyone know of a benchmark program that leaves graphics out of the equation? That would help create a more accurate picture of Haswell's performance, by disregarding the GPU that has no bearing on Ableton. If it turns out the Haswell i7 only keeps pace with the i5, which itself is giving roughl...

Re: Macbook Air 2012 i5 vs 2013 i7 - no CPU meter difference

Hi Avi...let us know what your testing shows. I'm curious as well; on paper, it seems like the i7 would absolutely handle audio more effectively - for example, when running a bunch of VST's at once. That would be very strange if the i5 and i7 showed near-identical performance.

Here's an interesting thread about touchscreen on Ableton and other DAW's.

It's a few months old, but still some interesting insights in there.

Re: Who has dared to follow their Ableton passion?

Follow your heart, man! The worst thing in the world would be sitting around in 10 or 15 years, regretting that you didn't do it. PLUS, you have a supportive wife. That's amazing. Not to mention the fact that you currently feel unsatisfied with your life, and have a hunger to create that isn't being...

Re: Windows 8 Touchscreens

Touch-enabled Ableton is the killer app that would prompt me to buy a Win8 machine. Otherwise my next machine will be a Macbook Air. It would be so, so damn nice to reach out and hit a fader/clip/track select when working on a track or jamming with others. Not to mention the form factor of a tablet ...

Re: Chromebooks?

It's a non-starter. Even the new Chromebook Pixel, which has an i5 CPU and 4 GB of RAM, wouldn't work. The issue is the OS, which is Google Chrome. It simply can't run Ableton, or other Mac/PC programs. It's locked into Google's cloud world. The Pixel is a nice piece of hardware - and hypothetically...

Multi-touch on Windows 8 devices

With the imminent rollout of Surface Pro - along with a bunch of other non-RT Win8 tabs - Ableton on multi-touch is a real possibility. I can't wait to get my hands on the DAW...reach over and grab some faders, drag some clips. Seems like it would be super-intuitive and help speed up the workflow. B...

Re: One of my songs on a Google ad

Congrats! Forum user does good. Story at 10:00.

Could you explain how this came to be? Did Google just randomly approach you after hearing a track online? Or do you actively send your tracks out to services like TAXI and try to get ad placements?

A question for TouchOSC/Lemur/TouchAble users

So I'm going to blow a $500 wad and get one of the new iPads. My initial intent was to get a mini or perhaps a Nexus, but after trying one in person I'm sold! I'm especially excited at how this thing could improve my workflow in the studio, via one of the hands-apps that can control Ableton. In othe...
