Re: Low Cut increases volume?

there's multiple reasons why a subtractive EQ filter might increase the peak level of a signal. - an EQ changes the shape of the waveform, and the resulting waveform might have a higher peak level. - the EQs most commonly used in mixing introduce frequency-dependent phase shifts to the signal, and c...

Re: Volume while recording is louder than recorded clip volume

how are you monitoring the analogue synth when recording? if you are using direct monitoring from your audio interface then the volume of the signal you are hearing isn't necessarily the same as what Live is recording. if you've screwed up your routing, it is also possible to be hearing a direct mon...

Re: Melodyne : how to send the processed audio to another track

yep, Live uses two-channel audio internally, so mono gets turned into dual-mono.

if it bothers you, you could export the recorded audio as an actual mono file and then reload it. a bit painful though.

Re: High end Mac with poor CPU usage

a single track is processed by a single core, so yes, one heavily loaded track can be bring any machine to its knees.

you might also find that lowering the GUI refresh rate might help you, since i guess you have a 5K display?

Re: What drum processing techniques are used to make drum swing work?

i don't think your "issue" is with drum processing and mixing. people who don't play drums have a marked tendency to underestimate the art and skill of percussion. if you sit most musicians down at a drum kit and ask them to play the most basic rock beat they will fail comically. i had a quick liste...

Re: Max out iMac pro upgrade worth it? Single core score ?’s

Just wanted to ask how far off you think we are from from computers or Daws being able to spread every element of a Daw(Ableton specifically) across all cores as in not dedicating a single track to a specific core leading to overload? making sure the other cores pick up the slack and are maxed out ...

Re: Max out iMac pro upgrade worth it? Single core score ?’s

it really depends on how you work. if you use lots of tracks then more cores will help. if you tend to have fewer tracks, and especially if some of those tracks are loaded up with CPU-intensive stuff, then single-core performance matters more. it doesn't make sense to compare the CPU usage in Activi...

Re: Latency....

because of the way that Live is designed to work it simply is heavier on CPU than any well-designed linear DAW. the other DAW that works like Live is Bitwig Studio and its CPU use is comparable to Live's...

your aggregate device sounds like a nightmare to me.

regarding background processes on a Mac, this guide is a great place to start:

Re: Is it 36 years too late to start music production ?

When you are younger you tend to learn much quicker and take things in as your brain develops and craves input. BUt as you get older it can be more difficult to really understand things so that will be a bit of a hinderance. i disagree with that bit. it depends on your perspective. for example, i h...

Re: Intel turbo boost

recording live instruments doesn't require much processing power. it's complex virtual instruments and effects that are the big CPU users.

with the Turbo Boost, just bear in mind that the boost only applies to a single core, and that Live spreads tracks out across the cores.
