the spin speed of a drive is not enough info; the way the drive connects is even more important (IDE/SATA/USB/FW400/etc)... if your system is having trouble loading samples from the EIC fast enough you will get very audible stutters... a relatively recent desktop system like yours should be fine... ...

btw, it's kinda confusing, but there are several common formats that fonts are stored as: TrueType, Postscript, OpenType.... a particular font may be available in all of the above formats, and it's best not to have duplicates...

i can't remember the folder names for Windows, but yes you can simply copy the font files... ...and it dosen't matter that I take it from Word and put it into Open Office? like amoeba said, don't put effects on the master... anything that is radically boosting freqs is gonna get you into trouble with vocal mics... does the vocal mic have to go through your computer? if you're playing with bad setups, i'd think about investing in an auto feedback destroyer... Behringer...

that's a kinda neat solution, but personally i'd go for two separate mounts with adjustable swing arms... they'd take up less space on the desk, and give you a lot more freedom to position the monitors in different configurations...

intermittent as in if one of the wires in a cable breaks, or a solder joint or connector pin comes loose it will usually still make some kind of electrical contact, just not reliably... in an analog connection (e.g. a mic cable) you will usually get a bad crackly connection, in a digital connection ...

sounds like it is probably the cable or the connectors...

one of the first basic troubleshooting steps with any equipment is checking connectors and cables... intermittent faults are really common if a cable or connector is damaged...
