I'd recommend getting the entire (and free!) GVST plugin bundle actually: http://www.gvst.co.uk/ I stumbled across it when someone recommended GClip to me - there's a whole feast of useful plugins in there which really do sound very good, especially for the price. While I'm here, also check out the ...

If your guess is correct, and Firewire IS actually the Dark Prince reincarnated, I'm afraid there's not much you can do.

Ahhh well, I wouldn't let it get to you mate - it's not personal, it's just a very busy industry, especially these days now that it's so much easier + cheaper for anyone to produce music (compared to say 10-15 years ago). There'll be plenty more opportunities for networking and getting your music ou...

Hey Nathan, nice to meet you mate - I've heard you have a smashing tune coming out on U&A soon, congrats! Regarding your post, I'm sure if you keep trying/networking you'll eventually be able to get in touch with TCM. If they're playing your stuff, they're going to be a lot more receptive to who you...

Like if you group selected 10 tracks, then changed the output on one of them, they'd all change to that output? I'd like this too, but it's not really a huge loss without it, just a bit time consuming.

Trickery Collective (breaks/electro label) taking demos

Hey all, just thought I'd let people know that Trickery Collective, the breaks/electro/techno label run by myself and Superpolitik, is now accepting demos. Please see our MySpace page for submission info:

In Live 7, if you have two audio tracks, one called KICK and one called BASS, stick a compressor on the BASS track. Click the little triangle icon on the top left of the compressor plugin (next to the on/off button), and it will expand a Sidechain view. Select KICK/Post FX as the audio in and adjust...

I disagree about the starting with drums thing - everyone works differently. I write a lot of dance music, and to me the percussion is the most important element as it defines the groove, so I like to nail drums and the bassline first before moving on elsewhere. My advice: Separate the creative stag...

alternatively, gently pop it off with a screwdriver / knife / anything narrow. Hahahahaha, that's a bit of a brute force solution there. :) It's called software for a reason. :D Reminds me of NASA discovering bugs in their space shuttle software, and "fixing" them by simply ordering the astronauts ...

Interesting idea, but I think they'd be better off just developing a controller with a decent sized display (instead of just a tiny B/W dot matrix display capable of displaying maybe 10-15 characters) above each button/slider.

More detailed Live CPU meter?

Would it be possible to give a more detailed breakdown of CPU usage in Live? I'm thinking of Jeskola Buzz Tracker, which would let you click on the CPU usage to get a detailed view which broke the usage down by track + plugin, eg: TOTAL CPU USAGE 44% Kick 3% +-Impulse 0% +-EQ-8 1% +-Reverb 2% Bass 6...

MySpace is a fantastic networking tool for musicians. Apart from allowing you to promote yourself to other artists/people that like your music, it acts as a kind of electronic business card which anyone can look up easily. I've had plenty of opportunities + music relationships start through it.

How can you deduce that simply from the fact it's an endless rotary? The knob definitely has discrete values, and it displays the volume on the LCD (eg. -36dB), but how can you tell from that if it's reducing the volume in the digital or analog domain? Couldn't it be happening on either side of the ...

On that note, is it possible to set up more than one "default" template? I'd like to have one for starting a new track and one for starting a new DJ mix. I could do it by just creating a shortcut that opens a .als file I've created, but if I accidentally save while working (CTRL+S is something I do ...
