Re: Is Ableton good for anything other than DJ/electronica?

I use Ableton for making music as diverse as Gleen, Flugelpomp and Jizzturkey (in the style of David J. Malmsteen). As you know these genres have no "drums" or "bass", or even any glockenspiel, and I've had no problems due to the unique refarbulation matrix encoded in the under-trumpet system of Li...

Re: Abletons Unprofessional Authorisation system-Online/Offline

Personally can't see what the fuss is about. It works for me and the Abes seem fine to give more unlocks if you use them up. I've put it on my old PC (now scrapped), my current PC, my work laptop (which was crap but meant I could mess around and experiment with simple parts while on business - not g...

Re: Mac just as good as any other PC when run windows 7 on it ?

It's a bit old now but: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/fastest-windows-vista-notebook-macbook-pro/1011 Basically a Mac is a fantastic top of the range PC. Maybe you pay a bit extra for it, and it loses some of it's advantages by running windows full time on it, but it's not gonna run Win7 slower...

Re: Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Foot Controller

Yep. It works fine. You can pretty much get Ableton to "learn" anything the FCB sends to it to set up mappings for ease. I'm a bit more careful though as I use mine to control my guitar amp too. Some FCB1010 banks I use for guitar patch changes only, some banks have some guitar patch sends but a sce...

Yep, that's the kind of sound I'm going for! 8)

And what kinda macro control do you assign to that?

It's Groovy in the Pool, man!

Tell me about grooves and how you use them. It was one of the reasons I upgraded to L8 a year ago (or whenever it was) but haven't really used them. What parts do you use them on? Do you split out chains and apply it to only certain parts of the kit? What are your most used grooves? How do you edit ...

Re: does ableton owe us something for a crap ver.8?

I'm not sure they necessarily owe us something big since it works for many people, but I do feel a bit peeved about Share. I'd prefer a slightly cheaper upgrade too at the next version. Obviously they should keep up the good bug-fixing work, but overall I'm more interested in some kind of new 64-bit...

Re: Should Live Divide?

If I had to use Live for triggering clips and things, and another for general DAW it would completely spoil any kind of workflow I have, stitch me up on stage (where I use both parts), at home whilst writing/arranging, and mostly practicing/jamming new tunes with the band. Add to that using the Live...

Re: Arrangement View needs lots of work.

Agree with all the points above. I usually work in arrangement view and it could definitely be made easier.

As per the fact there's no proper mixer in arrangement view though, I press "tab" in arrangement view and it toggles the lovely mixer view on and off!

Re: kick and bass how to make them sound massive and punch

I like the Dance Music Manual (I think it's called) myself. Some good explanations in there, even though what I make wouldn't really be classed as dance. I'm an Engineer/Physicist and Guitarist too, so my main problem is I know exactly how it all works and all the principles behind it, but my ears d...

Re: why is live unable to find its own audio files?

Live can never find my missing files either.

Yeah, you can customise the OSX one.

I liked the Dog on the XP search. It made it more endearing when it couldn't find F***-all ever! :-)
