Re: 10 is announced!

Erik, can you go into any more detail about the nature of this bundled version of Max? Is it still just the separate Max stand-alone app that gets launched or is it actually running inside of Live’s own codebase? It's built into Live now, when you launch Live you can immediately load M4L devices wi...

Re: 10 is announced!

• Max is now bundled in Live, and no longer requires an external installation. • Live will always use the bundled version of Max. • Max is now loaded at startup, instead of when the first Max device is used. Erik, can you go into any more detail about the nature of this bundled version of Max? Is i...

And why are you on the internet or even using computers to make music at all when you live in Asheville???

I know where I would be instead…

But seriously, just reading through a thread over at Muffwiggler where someone asks “what’s your favorite filter module?” could turn into a full time job itself.

Re: Proudly collecting music gear and software for no purpose

I have fallen headlong down the Eurorack/modular rabbit hole and I forgot to pack climbing gear.

Re: Live 32-bit to be discontinued

And stringtapper, I HAVE TO switch to 64 bit or I will be suspended from bugfixes and updates. I hate to be the one to break this to you, but Live 9 is most likely reaching the end of its life cycle. So if you stay with Live 9 you're going to be locked out of those things anyway by virtue of using ...

You don't HAVE TO do anything. I know people who still keep a PPC Mac around just to run OS 9 so that they can use obsolete software.

Re: MacOS 10.3 High Sierra & Max for Live incompatibility Issue

Just one more reason they need to roll Max into Live's code and abandon the separate app scheme.

(I can't believe M4L is eight years old now!)

Re: Proudly collecting music gear and software for no purpose

Last week I had a Moog Mother-32 delivered. After only an hour with it I ordered a second and the three tier rack kit for next-day delivery. Looks like I have finally been bitten by the modular bug (ok, semi-modular). For a couple of days the coffee table looked like a synth had exploded on i...

You can, and people do. There's a rack version of the X32 that can be controlled via an iPad app. Same for other boards like the PreSonus.

Re: When the output is balanced...DI Box?

Depending on the instruments, and their impedance (Lo or Hi Z). Roughly: electric guitars and basses DI. Acoustical with piezo and pre-amp DI. Synthesizer and electrical organs and piano's straight in. But most importand is to find out the impedance if it's hight impedance (Hi Z) or low impedance (...

Re: Question for the sound guys...

Is that board simply a controller much like some pianos are simply controllers and nothing more? No, the X32 is an actual mixer. It has 32 on board inputs and you never have to use the digital snake at all. But with the snake it becomes extremely convenient because you only have a single small-gaug...

Re: When the output is balanced...DI Box?

arretx wrote:Now, if I'm feeding the Focusrite with instrument level inputs, those instruments should be on a DI box before they get to the Focusrite, correct?
Not necessarily.

The first two channels (leftmost) on the 18i8 are mic/line/instrument combos, so you can plug (for example) a guitar directly in.

Re: When the output is balanced...DI Box?

TRS–>XLR cables should be all you need to go from the Focusrite to your monitors.

You don't need anything else between your mic and the Focusrite pres unless you don't like the sound of them and want to use an outboard preamp.
