Re: Rollback to Live 7 - we can't play live with Version 8
I've been having pretty great luck with the demo; in fact, I would have to say that I'm at a creative peak right now, thanks to some of the new features in 8, and the general lust I feel while using it. It gets a little weird sometimes, like particularly it seems to slow down a little when it's been...

Re: Akai vs. M4L conspiracy theory
Running a software company out of some office in Germany with a small number of employees quietly sitting at computers all day is a lot different than running a manufacturing company.

Re: Mac Mini as media server
Yeah, I haven't taken much advantage of that, although I've used this setup to take advantage of netflix' online viewing, which is a use I don't think they quite intend for that service...I think they'd rather have me buy their set-top box.

Re: Mac Mini as media server
I don't have a keyboard hooked up, I just use the on-screen "keyboard" if I need to type something, which is fairly rare. As for a mouse, I have a Logitech $20 wireless one, and I leave the dongle for it stretched out on the floor in front of the TV so I get a signal sitting several feet away. The m...

Re: Mac Mini as media server
I too have a core2duo Mini/EyeTV rig. EyeTV's software can be a little buggy, but overall it's a pretty excellent rig that gives me total control over my TV. I don't have to waste time watching crap or flipping channels, I can compress and export anything I want to keep long-term, and the Mini has g...

Re: Just a little something I wrote for the people
I ate some Italian tonight, and a bunch of liver pate. What I hold inside of me is likely to be a really interesting brown, and somewhat less than solid. Tomorrow morning, an inner universe of truth will spring forth, leaving gastrointestinal balance in its wake. A true champion knows that harmony i...

Re: 8 bar dead end
This is the most useful thread I've read in here in weeks, so facking *BUMP* I've been having this problem constantly...it seems to go with the territory a bit with Live. It's so easy to get some goddamn loop going that sounds like a song, and then get mired down for like a month in mixing it out an...

Re: suite 8 is sluggish
Yeah, I was just talking about teh sluggish in the thread about vocoder...I saw the disk overload phenomenon when I was working a couple nights ago. I've taken to freezing tracks to get by, something I'd only have to pull out in the 12+ track nightmare zone with 7. It's more like 6 tracks with v.8. ...

Re: Live 8 Vocoder?
I should elaborate about the processor issue...it's not that there is a lot of hiccupping, or that the meter goes off the chart, just that even though it's sitting there at 48%, the interface gets all choppy, like the meters 'n such don't move smoothly. Dramatically different than 7 on my machine. I...

Re: Live 8 Vocoder?
I find its sound and usability to rate about a 9, and its processor usage to rate about a 2. I know it's a complex effect and that this is to be expected, but you're going to want as beastly a computer as possible, especially to run it in more than one channel at once...the live 8 demo just about sh...

Re: Start launch at end of clip?
Well, if your clips are all the same length, if you set the global quantization to that length, doesn't that solve the problem? It'll finish out the current clip before starting the next. Maybe I'm not understanding what you need, but it seems as simple as that. I mean, depending on the material, th...

Re: Live's Reverb
I think of eco and medium modes as being a lot like the 24/48 selector on EQ3...they give different flavors at the same general setting. Sometimes Eco is just what sounds the best, because you might be looking for fakey. I wouldn't ever use it just because I was trying to save processor. I might add...
I'm getting pretty used to it now, but I'm still a little confused about the Density, Scale, Defuse and Reflect parameters.
Density and Scale are just for the Diffuse/Chorus section, and I just diddle with them until they sound good. The Diffuse and Reflect parameters ar...

Re: Flyswatter
Thanks for clarifying. Yeah, a lot of the things I record are in the poppy 60s rock vein, which is a long way from most electronica. Not as far as you might think, though...this thing is all hashed together from loops, and the only things that are "real" about it are the vocals, guitar and harmonica...
