Re: Is a MPC 2000 worth $350?

Re: Copying from Mac to standard External HD

if you need to keep the drive as is (you have additional data on it, and you don't want to re-format), it's most likely a permissions issue - your external may be set as read only for non-owners or if your macbook is not part of the group that has read/write access. do an apple-i on the drive to get...

Re: Ferrite and power line filters?

move your shit a few feet in any direction and see if the rf interference goes away. this will work. .lm. that may or may not work, depending on how strong the offending RF signal is and how it's getting into the audio. i used to run into severe RF problems in a performing arts center that was not ...

Re: Ferrite and power line filters?

using ferrite cores properly can be tricky - you usually will need multiple in order to achieve threshold impedance (the inductor impedance usually needs to be several hundred ohm to start to be effective against VHF and UHF frequencies), and the RF rejection increases as the square of the number of...

Re: OT: network genius'

not that i'm a genius, but i would suspect the DNS servers - most likely you have not specified a DNS server, and your ISP uses it's own (which are automatically entered into your own internet settings when you select DHCP, rather than setting things up manually). sometimes ISP DNS servers can take ...

Re: Reggae Guitar

getting back to the original subject........ yesterday, the new issue of Tape Op came in the mail, and there was an interview with an engineer who had this story to tell: engineer was in a studio in San Francisco and ran into Carlos Santana. after talking a bit, engineer asked if he could play Santa...

Re: Reggae Guitar

The irony is that once we get so technologically empirical with all this...it is no longer reggea  I always thought reggae had an in the moment "feel" aspect to it. Almost a metaphysical connection to the "moment"....if you want to get all Jah about it..... I can't imagine bob, or scratch, or...

Re: RME fireface 800 --good on macs?

i've had one on a 2 GHz G5 running Live 5, it works well. the only caveat is, it does not like to see *any* other Firewire devices on the same bus. that can cause occasional problems if you chance it (like refusing to pass audio at all), easily solved with a reboot and completely avoided by using US...

Re: Is a MPC 2000 worth $350?

FWIW, the LCD for the 2000 and 2000XL is the same..... goes bad at about the same rate, and they are closer to $300 now because it's an odd design and nobody makes them anymore. expect a screen to last 3-5 years. that kind of dooms MPC's with bad screens. personally, i think getting around the 2000 ...
