Re: Help recording Vinyl. I did it but it has clicks and pops!

i'm gonna guess that those clicks and pops are very short, full scale square waves... sure sounds like a digital clock problem, i.e., the Rane, or Ableton is not set properly to sync to whatever is providing master clock rate ...crackles and pops are a common symptom. you need to make sure everythin...

Re: Henry Rolins ft. The Techno Viking

no, take dancehall. cocaine added to the reggae scene, turned a mellow scene into violence and drugs. or take ecstacy and the gangs and violence that followed that. that is not quite true - gunmen and violence in the dance were a big problem long before cocaine became an issue in JA, going back to ...

Re: Internal Harddrive for Laptop Recommendations?

i have a 320 GB WD 7200 16MB cache in my Macbook..... startup time was noticably faster when i put it in, it's up and running in a little over 20 seconds for OSX (slower on the XP side, but i have never bothered to fine tune it). it doesn't get much warmer than the stock 120 GB drive did, the proces...

Re: Dub suggestions?

Herman's easy to find too- he moved Aquarius records from Kingston to south Florida in the mid 90s and there in a little plaza in Cutler Ridge he would no doubt be an interesting guy to ask questions about the Olden Days - i didn't realize he was Leslie Kong's cousin and worked at the Beverley's re...

Re: Dub suggestions?

never much liked Lee Perry all that much... some things here and there, but lots of his stuff just doesn't do it for me. any of the early Revolutionaries stuff from Channel One is great, not neccesarily super mind blowingly deep in a Scientist way but you have Sly & Robbie and company banging out ri...

Re: I was once lost, now I have been found, I just discovered

The Stone Roses didn't release many albums (2 albums), I think their most popular track was "Fools Gold" - drumming not often heard outside of soul and funk genres at the time of its release (check out Reni - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Wren ). At any rate, The first album was the better of t...

Re: Who (recently) sampled/remixed "Rock the Boat"?

well, the OG version is by The Hues Corporation - it was a massive hit in 1974, i didn't know there was any other version. it's the definitive version, and the one you're most likely to hear on the radio, or butchered by some Saturday night dance party radio program.

Re: OT: Your favourite sandwich

a good pulled pork sandwich - pork not cooked in barbecue sauce, but properly smoked. and not like Sonny's BBQ shit, which is awful. only philistines eat that crap. equally as good, but not quite a sandwich: Jamaican patties with a D&G soda, preferably from a place that knows how to make them right...

Re: How to treat low bass for laptop speakers?

sometimes doubling the subby line with another complementary bass sound with less low end that CAN be heard on the laptop speakers is the solution.

Re: forgive me for saying this but

i think The Chinese might have a thing or two to say about that.... and as i recall from the last episode, they sent down a million or so representatives to discuss that with the U.N. representatives that were in North Korea, a little too close to Manchuria.
