Sorry, I can't compare specifically with Logic, as I'm on Windows, but I would certainly answer that YES Live 5 is competant as a full-on DAW. I think the new features in version 5, while not reinventing the wheel (Live 4 already did that  ), certainly complete the circle. I was previously usi...

Consolidation is a form of audio editing. Clip editing is the one thing that you CAN'T do with frozen clips. So if it is important to consolidate your clips even when they are frozen... you will need to undreeze them, consolidate, and refreeze.

We'e both saying the same thing really braj...

It's already there - so you can do exactly what you are asking braj :)

It's already there - so Ableton *could* make a minor tweak and call it "render in place", as you say. 8)

Right now Live 5 is recording frozen clips as soundfiles somewhere, why not just have an option to have those sound files available as 'rendered' audio that you have full control over? You do (didn't I answer that one elsewhere?) * Freeze the track * File > "Save Set Self Contained" * Bingo - all t...

Hey, Diverdee! The reason that Tracktion can do this is because it implements the audio return on the same track as the MIDI output, unlike Live. However, this is actually couterintuitive in that it hides the process that is actually going on  ... and there are some "bad" consequences... The p...

I hear where you're coming from krank... Speaking from my personal experience, I do lots of different styles of music. Basically I was classically trained (Royal College of Music, London) but played some rock/blues. Discovered Cubase in the Atari days. Became a piano teacher but drifted towards keyb...

Yes, I'm with braj on that - I like the fold feature a lot, and really enjoy sequencing drum patterns.

Not so suitable for lengthy linear work perhaps (I do that in notation anyway, using Sibelius).

you can merge audio-clips by the "consolidate" comand. I never worked with logic so I can not compare both applications. LIVE has a non-destructive approach, so you do most things without altering the original audio-file. The quick way to do this is to select both clips by holding SHIFT and clickin...

I really like the new layout. And the arrows do a good job of illustrating, that there's more going on under the hood, that you CAN actually extract bits of a file by expanding it. The only thing I would keep is the little black and green ableton logos for the files, but live5 has a diff. colour sc...

you could go into your temp directory and copy them, yes.
