I was sure that was precisely what is described in the publicity material, though :?

I'm not a DJ, but I would definitely recommend Ozonic as a better option for DJs for the reason that mrfart gives.

Are they? Ooops - didn't know that. I only saw the 24-key version. I find 24 keys simply not enought (which is one of the reasons I went for Ozonic).

I guess that a larger version of X-Station would be pretty cool, but presumably cost a lot more?

That seems odd to me, because I noticed a real decrease in Live 5's CPU meter from Live 4. It seems more eddiecient here!

Also there's the new freeze feature of course, which will be a real asset on an older machine, I'm sure.

If you really play then Novation is better choice, the good keys ( M audio keys are OK for triggering but not for real playing) and the built in synth. Alesis have nice keys too. I disagree 8O The Novation only has two octaves, while Ozonic has three. As a pro keyboard player and teacher, that alon...

No, you're quite correct Martyn.

Of course Reason is so CPU efficient that this isn't exactly a problem anyway

I think overall in Live 5 I still prefer to bounce to audio anyway. But the new freeze function will be useful in arrangement view when dealing with larger scale arrangements 8)

... we plan to add a comand which will make a real audio clip out of the frozen track. However this would also mean we need to program something which can turn a MIDI track into an audio track. Well, we work on it. Robert Henke / Ableton Is this planned for Live 5 still? Your description here sound...

Yes, now that I've spent more time with Live 5's freeze, I don't think it does what the publicity claimed it would do :? I had thought that the clips within the track would be frozen (i,e. rendered in the background in a temp file) and you could launch them still in real time. That seems not to be t...

I noticed similar performance issues when live 4 was first released, but much improved since bugfix version 4.0.3 (and subsequent releases). In tests I have done subsequently (using FLS, Tracktion and Cubase for comparrison) I found that Live is now better than the others. Audio buffer size can appa...

There are lots of good recommendations, I'm sure, but I use the M-Audio Ozonic and would certainly recommend it. You can read about it here: http://www.midiman.net/products/en_gb/Ozonic-main.html What I like about it is - 1. The firewire connection is better than the USB that I had before, and audio...

I'd echo that. From the initial post my immediate reaction was that neither Live 4 nor the CPU are to blame, but rather all the other crap that Windows gets up to all on its own :? As far as I understand it, Live's CPU meter does not show the additional load that some of this stuff places - it shows...

Thanks for the tip. Hoovering from the vents needs doing here quite frequently now, so I'm thinking there's probably a build up of filth on the inside. I'm an a Fujutsu-Siemens Amilo D P4 2.8Ghz model. Thinking of changing to a Centrino laptop next year, partly because of this issue with the fan. (a...
