I had the identical problem (P4 laptop dying in action!), and hooveing out the vents proved the solution. I now do this regularly, but have never opened up the laptop...

...is this safe/wise/easy to do?

This is all true, but Ableton has also reduced the price on their bundles. For what it is worth. That may mean that they are trying to attract even more customers before making the announcement for LIVE5. ... Interesting - I didn't spot that. Yep, that probably means we're in phase 2 so far as Live...

Re: Live 5 date?

When will live 5 be released? Live 4 was released on the 24th of July but announced on the 4th of June. Haha! That sounds like fun. I think that each Live update has been a year or less, so personally I'm sure we'll be hearing about Live 5 before the autumn... ...on the other hand, Live 4 was a gig...

Adobe Audition 1.5 is awesome, and includes multitrack recording... but its only Windows at present. Keep an eye out though, as it wouldn't surprise me if version 2.0 is ported to mac

M-Audio Ozonic is working well here... firewire connection, audio interface included, three octave keys, nine faders, seperate mix for phones, pitch bend, mod wheel and joystick, more.... worth a look. Audio sounds great through this one, too. 8)

I just got one too and I rather like it. Great audio sound quality compared against the Edirol UA 20 I was using before. Even the wife and kids (not musicians) noticed and commented straight away.

Well I would agree with your friend that a wave editor is an essential companion to Live 4. I certainly don't open every audio clip in my external wave editor, but I do find it very useful to edit audio using the specialist tools that (in my case) Adobe Audition offers. Because Live is quite CPU int...

Hey! Frank, you will be pleased to hear that v.4.1.1 seems on first impressions to have cured my issue. I downloaded it on the off-chance that things would have improved, and was imediately surprised to notice that CPU performance seemed to be improved. So I redid my Ambience test, with much better ...

I think this is very odd, too.... and frustrating. I have Adobe Audition, which is audio only but will act as a ReWire master. I had hoped to use Audition as a main audio workspace, and bring in Live 4 as a ReWire slave to do MIDI stuff/VST instruments. This is obviously impossible because of Live n...

Hi Frank, and thanks for the clarification. I did an ambience test using the latency setting you suggested. I also repeated the same test in Tracktion 1.6. For the test I loaded a 16 bar drum loop (audio) into repeated tracks, and measured CPU in Live/Tracktion's own CPU meters (Tracktions are a vis...

Thanks very much Frank for such a quick response and for taking the time to investigate the issue I raised. Your reply is very interesting, as you appear to have used a very different set-up to me, and obtained very different (opposite!) results... The biggest difference in the setup is that I am on...

The Live CPU meter does only display the audio load of the engine and not the overall CPU useage of Live. There are many other threads involved, which run in lower priority. So basically it is only an indicator for how much audio power is left. Best, Frank In that case I don't understand why I get ...

I'm not sure which is true. :? What I do know is that VSTs opened in Live 4 seem to use up around 50% more CPU than the same VSTs opened in Tracktion, whether you use the Windows or in-software meters to measure it (and this has been confirmed on this and the KVR forum by others doing the same test ...
