Plus, in fact the X-Session looks like it has more trigger-buttons, which I might prefer for my purposes. on the contrary, the UC-33 has more trigger buttons., and also Preset "scene" buttons. Ah. So the numeric keypad on the uc33 does the triggering, and can potentially handle more on/off/toggle s...

Dear Stal, TokyoJoe69 and Robin-- Thanks for your responses! I am crunched for bread for the foreseeable future, and want to put aside some $$ for Reason 3.0 when it comes out so a uc33 is not really an option. Plus, in fact the X-Session looks like it has more trigger-buttons, which I might prefer ...

Dear Jtenney, No problem with Live. I use an old Roland TR 505 (rhytm composer) and the X-session. Or sometimes with the old Yamha DX-7. You can assign any knob or key with midi information to trigger Live. A great tool working very well with all old midi stuff. But it is a pity you don't use the D...

Live 4 and Evolution X-Session

This looks very attractive for what I'd like to do: not DJing, but soundscapes with need for triggering and processing lots of smaller clips, with quite a bit of crossfading. Anybody have any ideas? Also, it seemed to me from a review that I could use the Midi-in Midi-out ports on X-Session to repla...

I'm heading there tomorrow afternoon, and I'll post tomorrow night if anything catches my eye. Of course, The Big Guns will be massing their forces south of us at NAMM, but... I'll check Macworld out. I'm still kind of a newbie with Live (better with Reason), and have only been in Mac OSX for a year...

Angstrom, you're my man. You have mentioned the 3 big things I too would like to see implemented. Oh, one more (a small thing but could be helpful): a choice of font size in clip/scene/track labels, to fit in a few more characters for more specific labeling, either that or a way to scroll right. But...

Thanks, Tylast! You and lots of others are great to help a newbie like me, with stuff that was posted way before I even started thinking about doing Live! The stuff in this thread... http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6252 ...actually makes me feel worse! In that there's things I hadn't th...

Good point, rEalm. And I think you may be quite right. It may be my personal problem, in that I have files etc. organized quite differently. Maybe a preference setting instead that could do it, rather than a default. Thanks for the words!

Saving self-contained and .asd files

If one uses the save self-contained feature in saving a set, it might be good if Live could delete the .asd files associated with the clips in their original locations. It's not a big deal, but it does create clutter of many tiny files, since the original .asds are clearly not going to be used. I ha...

Keeping more than one live set open

Hello again-- I work in a "mosaic" fashion, that is, putting a touch here and a lick there, then moving on to something else, then going back. In most programs, like Reason, you can have more than one project open, switchable through a "window" pulldown menu. Why not something like that in Live, rat...

Preference setting for track & clip labels

Hi all-- A relative newbie here. A concept I'd like to see implemented is being able to change the font size on track and clip labels by a preference setting. You just can't get much info into so few characters, even if you do imaginative abbreviations. Even 4-5-6 more characters per label would hel...

Thanks for info on "super-automation"!

basetwo, am and pepezabala, I appreciate your responses! I will try them out, though basetwo, I don't know if I can do your thing since I run Mac OSX. If you have an idea for me and feel like shooting it my way, that would be great!

best,
John

Rewiring master output

I hope I don't drive you all nuts with so many newbie questions all at once... I've been saving them up awhile 'cause I've been busy... I'm very fond of the reverb device in Reason, the RV 7000. If I wanted to use it as a master reverb effect in Live, can I rewire so the output of the master is rewi...

More from a newbie: Sub-mixing and hiding tracks

Hello again all-- Man, you'll have to forgive me on this terminology. Don't know what to call things. Let me explain. I'm into doing soundscape-oriented pieces, and often will use a complicated "bed" of sound with half a dozen or more looped elements in it. In Reason 2.5, the samplers can really be ...

Newbie question: "super-automation"?

That's a made-up word since I don't know the right terminology... Hello all-- I'm a complete newbie, so forgive me if I ask obvious questions or ask about things impossible to do in Live. I've used Reason for a couple of years, and no other programs, just so you know where I'm coming from. Like user...
