Re: making interesting pads with operator

yeah, start with the presets! also operator works great for subtractive synthesis, especially if you change the filter mode to svf or ladder. you can set up a sweet subtractive patch then start subtly adding harmonics with the fm. operator is a beast. and don't fear the presets! you paid for them, g...

Re: What strange effect is this?

chyuh get a nice digi pad, maybe an operator preset or something, then on a return track put an autofilter and make it sweep slow with a bit of resonance, then after that on the same return track add a frequency shifter, set its lfo wave to square, turn up the lfo amount and see what happens. oh and...

Re: would you release on, or buy a cassette tape?

I would, and I would. find hipsters. mean ones. mean nasty graffiti hipsters that are way too cool to get cars with cd players. they have cassette players, and are probably secretly dying for something fresh to jam while drivin around huffing paint or whatever. they'll tell you it sucks. cassette's ...

Re: Need help creating a gentle sound...

funny you say what you did, cuz that's what i'd do! find a string preset that sounds synthy. put an effects rack after it. click on the chains tab, right click and add two more. add a flanger on one chain, with the volume way down, then add autofilter in bandpass mode to another, also pretty low vol...

Re: Percussive hardware. looking for inspiration. Hands-on drums

akai LPD8, straight up. I have an mpc2000xl, which dwarfs the lpd's pads in useability, but i noticed that unless i'm using both at once (ie never) i dont notice a problem with lpd8, only notice that it rocks. 60 bucks man, can't go wrong, 8 pots too. it really lets you focus on just hittin that shi...

Re: Whats the best way to make substep wobble?

i feel ya buddy. his method is thin because of the bandpass. do what he does and add wicked sub, or use lowpass and add wicked sub. by wicked sub i mean low sine or filtered square. lowwwwww and compress it so it's loud. or use operator, way better for wobbles, the filter is more versatile and aggre...

Re: TeeBee (featured in Retro Synths) vs. Audiorealism Bassline

so have you tried operator? it absolutely can emulate a 303. a tad more work than with devilfish, but only to get the right overdrive. I'd ask someone to prove me wrong, but I'm playing with it now, and you can't ;)

Re: Hard Melodic Gritty Bliss

dig the groove. the lead about 3/4s through sounds a little dry, filter automation or lfos on that square could make it more interesting. also the arpeggiation right around that same drop sounds kind of dated, unless you're totally into that trancey thang, in which case you nailed it. your arrangeme...

Re: Quick Question - velocity adjustments

perhaps i dont understand your question but if you're playing your drum sounds with simpler, adjust the velocity param at the far right, then change the velocity on your midi notes, the volume will vary.

Re: using dummy clips with the effect rack

dude! make an effects rack, then open the chains panel, right click and create chain now you have two parallel chains, one is dry, one can be your reverb. in this case you'd set it to 100% wet, then automate the volume of that chain. then again you could always just automate your send knob and use y...

Re: Advice on a drum vst

drum racks!!!! buy an album called "all the breaks", chop them in arrange view with quantize off, drag them to drum racks, add a bit of saturator and you're almost there. totally there, even, for some situations. also somewhere in the web you can download a huge file full of sampled old school drum ...

Re: room correction - advice needed

rooms can be strange. i'm using really sweet discontinued passive krk monitors, but my low end is pretty frequently coming back from the wall behind me out of phase. didn't realize until i tried to show my dad on his dalquists, straight up thought i blew them. move your head all around the room whil...
