Why you should attempt to mix/master your own tracks.

Bored (and tipsy) at the office, so I thought I would share an opinion that's been slowly crystallising since starting with Ableton. Forgive the deliberately provocative title =) As a musician, you absolutely should mix and master your own tracks (and then get a professional to do it for real). The ...

Re: Frequencies when mastering

Ozone also has the auto match facility e.g. 'pink line' or whatever it's called. I tried it once, dreadful, never again. Setting the Ableton spectrum average to high also does an average over time, can't remember what is the max length (at office and bored, reading forums)

Re: Associating different tracks together for sync'ing audio

I am conflicted:

Do I go "Wow that's so cool, I have such a great use for that" and display ignorance or stay quiet...

The alternative is an infinitely expanding undo list, it has to be stored you know and it takes up resources.

Dunno about your chances for a single head solution, but DrumKat is pretty cool.

Re: Tascam portastudio (tape recorder)

Crazy idea, the quality would probably suck but to save the hassle of recording, then replaying, I wonder if you could use an old tape echo with a single delay =)

Re: Live not supported as Major DAW.. Why?! Audient etc

It doesn't support timestamping which is a pretty big issue when collaborating. When you trade wavs, you have to frig around telling it where the 1 is, fixing up it's guess at tempo. That always felt gimp to me, but apart from that I wouldn't swap it for anything.

Re: New to Ableton and Midi Controllers & Drum Pads

My Dell tower is 4 years old with nary a hitch, I will buy one again when I upgrade. The only thing I would think about is going 64bit with 6gb+, Ableton is still 32 bit but a 64bit machine will give a 32 bit program twice as much RAM to play with. That takes RAM out of the equation, get fast disks,...
