Re: Offensive neighbours decibel level

I had a neighbor back when I was first getting into making music who would play his radio really loud during the day when I was trying to work. Wouldn't even talk about it, just a rude ass who didn't care no matter how nicely I tried to approach him. One day I realized I likely had better speakers t...

Re: Compressing Drums. Why Do It?

I think like a lot of things when it comes to making music, people read an interview with an artist they look up to who said they did X,Y,Z and feel like they should be doing X,Y,Z in their own music too.

Re: Compressing Drums. Why Do It?

I almost never compress drums either. :)

Electronic drums and samples you buy typically are already a bit dynamically limited, either on purpose or just due to the nature of how they were created. If you don't hear a need for compression, don't feel you have to do it!

Re: Does the quality of the Audio Interface affect playback, or only recording?

Nope, it only affects what you record and what you hear, not the actual processing of the audio. That said, if you have a very low quality soundcard and it's not giving you a true picture of what your music making sounds like, then for all intents it's affecting how you process your audio too. Most ...

Re: Offensive neighbours decibel level

The biggest issue is just enforcement more than anything. Even if your city has a noise ordinance with a specific dB cited as "too high", often times it's near impossible get the authorities to actually come to your place and take a reading while the noise is happening. That's really your only optio...

And decoded too, different algorithms can give you different amounts of silence before and after the track.

Re: help please

Probably best to watch some videos on the basics of how Live works first, your question is very broad and depends a lot on what gear you're using and why you're doing something with karaoke.

Re: Struggles we are going through

I have had a lot more time lately to actually make music thanks to Covid ending all my travel plans, but I'm just not in a creative space at the moment. Makes me annoyed and frustrated that fate and the randomness of writer's block has conspired to not make these two things align. Like I'm wasting t...

You're probably better off asking Roland.

Re: How to protect passwords?

This is built into MacOS as well for those that are curious, you can create 128 or 256bit AES encrypted DMG files in disk utility. No need for a separate app if you're just trying to protect a file or folder.

Re: Compression eq and mixing

Only do what you hear a need to do. Blindly adding unneeded EQ or compression is the surest way to a flat and dull sounding mix IMO. As to which to do first (assuming you actually need both, which isn't always the case), I always tell people address the issue you hear first. If you solo the bass and...

Re: How to protect passwords?

I just use Apple's iCloud Keychain, that way all my passwords are encrypted and synced across my computer, iPhone, and iPad. If I ever need to access an account away from one of my devices, I can always look up the passwords from my phone.
