Use of Ableton Live in non-idiomatic free improvisation

Hello everyone, Obviously, most music shared here is dance or beat-oriented due to the user base Ableton Live generally appeals to. I'd like to show you here how Live can be used in the totally different musical context of free improvisation, which refers to improvised music that strives to stay awa...

Writing macro changes in Undo history - what's the point?

Can anyone please tell me why it would be really crucial to write macro changes in the undo buffer? I make a few changes in a rack that has active macro controls, try these changes out, and decide to get rid of them. Normally, you'd undo these changes and continue working, right? No. In Ableton, as ...

Re: Reverse button in Simpler

I see you point, but I still cannot understand the reason for hiding this reverse functionality from users. I do not think that the "reverse" function has such an added value for people to consider buying a Sampler or the Suite. The Sampler is already much more sophisticated than the Simpler. Is thi...

Reverse button in Simpler

Hi there, I have recently come across a drum rack that uses Simplers in all of its slots and yet allows reversing of the samples, with one of the Macros assigned to the "Reverse" parameter of all Simplers. Yet, Simpler does not actually have Reverse button. I've realized a little later that this is ...

Re: MIDI-controlled parameters in undo history

Seeing accelerometers featured in more controllers nowadays, this problem may also haunt users of MIDI Fighter 3D or Hot Hand. Just do your soundcheck, leave your MIDI Fighter 3D afterwards on the table (which will almost always be slanted enough to trigger the gravity sensors) until you return to y...

MIDI-controlled parameters in undo history

Hi there, There has been an issue with Live that has been haunting me since I started using Wiimotes. As you may know, Wiimotes have accelerometers that constantly send MIDI controller data, regardless of whether you are actively using them or not. As Live also records parameter changes created by M...

MIDI mapping of Noise Rate and Noise Crackle (Vocoder)

Hi there, I have just discovered that the Noise Rate and Noise Crackle parameters that are controlled by the XY pad on the Vocoder, which appears when Noise is selected as Carrier, cannot be mapped to MIDI controllers. They are available in the automation lane parameter list (in fact that's the only...

I think you simply drag the video window to the second display, which in your case is the projector.

Re: How can I be on version 9.0.3?

I also seem to be on version 9.0.3. even though I have never installed it. I have, however, installed one of the 9.0.3 betas (and have deleted it soon after). I think now my 9.0.2 thinks it's 9.0.3.

Re: Ableton: You've stolen £164 from me - pick up the phone!

This little man worked as a consultant for one of the world's largest consulting companies, led many projects in the Middle East and the Balkans, and knows very well not to act out of anger and start throwing accusations at people or companies. So the combination of your attitude here and running a ...

Re: Ableton: You've stolen £164 from me - pick up the phone!

Accusing a person or a company of theft is a big big thing. Ableton did not steal your money. Their servers crashed. Just like your computer sometimes does when you try to run a million plugins at the same time. You are obviously not only angry, but also very insensitive and stupid. After accusing a...

I reported this problem to Ableton many years ago. They told me they don't see it as a problem or something like that. I hope they solve this finally in Ableton 9.

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

With a simple fix that would stop MIDI-controlled parameters from recorded into the undo buffer, this problem could be solved. Even better, this could be made into an option, as people using Live in studio situations would probably like to keep this feature.

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

Matt, how ”insensitive” can the sensors be made? A controller-heavy Ableton Live performance using one or more QuNeos along with an iPad running Lemur with a lot of bouncing balls on it can crash the set in less than an hour. It might be Lemur causing the crash when combined with QuNeos. I have had...

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

Ableton's Undo buffer limitation has been an issue for a long time. If you have controllers that send dense MIDI data (such as wiimotes), your live set will crash once the undo buffer reaches a size of 2GB. Ableton has expressed their indifference to the problem many times. They simply don't care. ...
