Re: Does a reliable audio interface really exist?

I have found RME (for production) and NI (for DJ/Live) to very reliable so long as you avoid the release of a new product line for the first few months.

TBH avoiding the latest release of anything is probably a good idea.

Re: Dynamic sidechain EQ?

I use fab filter pro-mb for this kind of thing. Its a very nice multi-band compressor / dynamic EQ with a side chain input. A common use for me is sticking it over an instrumental sub mix to keep a vocal clear (vocal feeds the side chain). Gives lots of control and nice UI that gives lots of visual ...

Re: VST3 Support!

I don't specifically care about VST 3 as such as I do not do multichannel mixes (just stereo), however there are many circumstances in a mix where we work with 4 or more channels: Side chain inputs Instruments with multiple outputs. For instruments with multiple outputs, it is possible hack somethin...

Re: Interface vs. Stock Output Sound Quality

I wonder if this is an analog reconstruction related issue? Too much information is missing to know one way or the other. Perhaps try rolling off the low end of your mix (if already doing so, may lower the Q factor on the high pass a little more), perhaps trying lowering the final limiter output lev...

Godsend for folks with dongles...

So I finally got around to getting a proper NAS and ended up choosing one from from QNAP. While setting it up I came across something called VirtualHere (https://www.virtualhere.com/) in the available apps install on the NAS (its basically a linux server) that claimed to let you use USB devices over...

Re: IMO Soft synths and plugins are much better than hardware

To me both are great. I used to basically have a room semi-full of keyboards, and racks of synths and fx boxes etc. Mucho fun to wire up and just play stuff on, but a pain in the arse to record with (computers have made me lazy), especially having to remember to do patch management, taking photos of...

Re: Kontakt making everything super laggy

It's been like this for years, and it's never getting any better. Mac book pro i7 2,8GHz, 8Go RAM, SSD. Live 9.2.2 Audio glitches with ridiculously big buffer settings. UI lags like hell. Please abes, you've been aware of this problem for years... Hmm - think something else is wrong there. 2011 MBP...

Re: will I gain a lot by getter a faster mac?

If you are hitting glitchiness at 50% cpu use, then it would seem there is something else wrong with the software/hardware on you computer, or even the computer itself (ie an actual fault). I run my old 2011 MBP-17 to around 75-80% (on Live's indicator) - that's with a USB 2 connected RME UFX audio ...

Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

I'm still using the best early (Feb) 2011 MBP 17 I could get my mucky paws on at the time (2.3Ghz 2nd gen i7 cpu, 8GB ram and since stuck a 1TB Samsung evo 840 SSD in it). It was the first Apple computer I have used since the old apple II GS (very very long time ago). Over 4.1/2 years later and its ...

Re: One of the Greatest Rants EVER!!!!!

Agree with rant in some ways, but disagree with it in others. Audiences can be convinced to lap up and enjoy more or less any crap so long as they can feel right in doing so. Most don't know good from bad or even care. The classic one that hits me on a regular basis is people who don't bat an eyelid...

Re: Digital mixer with Ableton, good or bad idea

I wouldn't bother. In the end a digital mixer will probably just add another layer of control surface abstraction which TBH just annoying. Im not even sure there is anything around anymore that is actually good for this dual role (mix control and control surface) - i used to use a Yamaha 01x+i88x wh...

Re: "Master-Quality" hi-fidelity iPod Alternative: PonoPlayer

The shape of this thing for a portable player is a fail IMHO. I cant see anyone wanting it in their pocket.

Might have been better changing the name to 'porno' and adding video... ;)

is that a 'porno' in your pocket or you just pleased to see me?

Re: Live Suite + Komplete: Worth it?

It depends on what music you make and what sounds you want. I have suite and K8 ultimate (not upgraded to K9 yet) and for me its worth it for the extra kontakt instruments. If you are just after synths, then no. Live suite is probably more useful. If you want some decent pianos, electric bases, drum...
