Re: New Ableton Suite User. Where to put my 3rd party samples

Put them wherever you want on your hard drive, someplace organized by you --- then in Live, go to the browser and click the + Add Location button, then select that sample library area on your HD. Live will scan it, and then it will show up in the browser as a location that you can look at and drag a...

Re: Why does Ableton keep adding new features that no one wants?

All of the recent-ish additions and advancements to Simpler have been nothing short of stellar... I know they are very much "Wanted" by a number of live users. The OP thinks that if he doesn't want something, that means nobody else wants it either. What a bore.

Re: Database crash + re-scan -- I am alone in this ??

Hey Michael, ever tried deleting the Live 9 database?: For OS X the path to the database file is: /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Ableton/Live 9.x.x/Database/files.db Quit Live before deleting. Live 9 database disk image is malformed – Ableton AG How to reset Live – Ableton AG I think...

Re: Database crash + re-scan -- I am alone in this ??

@mholloway, Have support looked at a copy of your database when it has crashed? What do they know about database corruption with the Live db? They told you anything about this? Yes, they had me add something to options.txt that gives them additional info when I make a status report, then they had m...

Re: Database crash + re-scan -- I am alone in this ??

I suspect something unique to your setup. Not your hardware, but your way of working. Do you have some form of automated incremental backup system running? Or some form of filewrite auditing? I haven't been using anything like that, In fact I have no idea what those things are, ha. SQLite is Okayis...

Re: Database crash + re-scan -- I am alone in this ??

Have you tried a completely fresh install of Live and all your packs? When you transferred to your newest computer, did you restore from a Time Machine back up or similar? Just wondering if you somehow had a corrupted library ages ago and keep propogating it to new set ups. Well, Live and all my pa...

Database crash + re-scan -- I am alone in this ??

I just sent off an e-mail to support to try to get my old ticket on this re-opened (it was never solved to begin with). NOTE: Basically I'm posting again here simply because I want to know if somehow, bizarrely, I'm the only one experiencing this issue with such incredible persistence. Support has a...

Re: WHOLLY MISSING LIBRARY BATMAN!! just like that!

The database crashed, quit and re-open and Live will (slowly) re-scan all of your stuff. If you go look in the relevant folders, you'll see that none of your stuff is actually "gone", it's all on your HD as before -- it's just that Live's database crashed, so none of it shows up in Live until the re...

Re: The "Sample is Offline" DAW

How do you save sampler instruments? Are they always associated with the project fie? Is there something similar with Maschines "save group with samples" option? Answer: You drag the instrument devices into the User Library, into a folder of your making/choosing. This will save the instrument + its...

Re: Native Instruments just ripped off Push big-time, ha!

Sigh. Seems like a tremendous amount of overlap if you are a Live user and development time being taken away from better Maschine integration in DAWs. But better integration doesn’t make money, new hardware does. Maschine's longtime core users want serious updates and expansions to the functionalit...

Re: The "Sample is Offline" DAW

I've had my share of problems with Ableton, but in my 8 years of heavy usage, I've NEVER had it just go and lose a file mysteriously. Ableton is actually very, very smart about its approach to file maintenance. It does NOT just randomly move your files around or delete them. Since all sessions refer...

Re: Native Instruments just ripped off Push big-time, ha!

I'm guessing people who say NI should make their own DAW haven't spent any time with the Maschine software 8O I mean, in some ways Maschine is fast and fun; I do like the software version 2 (I -hated- the software version 1). but it's also so weirdly dated in so many ways, very non-intuitive / diffi...

Re: Can Ableton do this? - Chop sample, fade out

Hey, I saw this against the clock with Rival Console yesterday, and saw a very creative way to get texture into songs. Basically he imports a field-recording or something similar, chops it up, selects all the different chops, and selects "Fade out" in Cubase. All the different parts of the chopped ...
