Re: help me wrap my mind around ableton session ?!

Sometimes, if I'm not exactly sure what I want to record, I'll just hit record and start jamming. Once I'm done, I'll reduce the clip down to just the part that I like. There are lots of ways to use Session View, but I think it is optimized for running clips as loops, which is especially effective f...

I don't like everything he does, but he's got tons of great albums.

This is my personal favorite:

Re: Video - Apc40 - Opening the box and plugging in

Tom,

The video is seriously great. Please, please, please post another once you've had a chance to break it in a bit. I would love to know if it has any impact on how you arrange your megaset or on your performances in general. I'd also love to know if you do any customizations with it.

Re: Dynamic tube, Saturator, Overdrive

I've been playing around with dropping these different distortion effects on various drum machine sounds. I like the range of drum machines that come with Suite, but they sometimes sound a little thin to me. Adding just a little bit of distortion to them really makes them pop. Also combining flange ...

Re: Music Production Question

I've been using Live to produce tracks for several months now and it's been working like a charm. I don't have any experience with Cubase, so I don't really know what I might be missing, but I haven't really come across any roadblocks in my recording process so far. There isn't much I can think of t...

Re: im BORED of just playing clips. . . Live Show!

Ruso,

I'd like to hear more about the set you are working on.

I've been wanting to move from just recording tracks to live performance, but I don't want to be stuck just recreating my songs. I definitely want to have some improvised content too, but I'm not really sure how to make that happen.

Re: House / Techno Bassline Tips wanted...

What type of bass do you want?

Are you talking about a synth bass or more of a bass guitar sound?

Not a step sequencer here, but the dude in this clip is a pal of the step sequencer dude, also pretty bad ass!

Re: APC 40 Step Sequencer Sensation !

Looks really awesome, but I don't really understand what he did - can someone explain?

I'm getting the APC40 and want it to be as flexible as possible, but I don't have the programming know-how to make it happen. A lot of this stuff is over my head.

Re: am i the only one who isn't excited about the apc40

Yeah, I'm not even trying to compare the two. I bought an APC and have absolutely no interest in Maschine. I'm just saying, I can see how some folks would like a powerful controller that can interact with Live in a manner similar to a groovebox or powerful drum machine. I don't think the APC was mad...

Re: am i the only one who isn't excited about the apc40

it has a step sequencer mode. why do you think they're lax? you have some crystal ball so you can peer into their offices? I may be wrong, but I don't think the step sequencer mode really does what people are looking for, which is the ability to jam out patterns on the fly in a live situation, whic...

Re: am i the only one who isn't excited about the apc40

I hate to brag, but I just pre-ordered and APC40 for $320 and I am super psyched. I don't have any viable controllers yet and I want to start moving from track creation to live performance, so this looks like it is going to be perfect. I sympathize with the folks who want more drum machine or step s...

Re: The Engine Has Restarted!

Hey, absolutely no worries. It's obviously been a very difficult time for you and I'm glad to hear that things are getting better. Just make sure you keep me in the loop if you decide to start pulling this show together. I may or may not be able to perform, but I definitely want to go and participat...

Re: The Engine Has Restarted!

Sweet!

I just pre-ordered the APC40 last night using that Musician's Friend gift certificate deal. I'm one step closer to being able to join in if and when an Ableton night happens in Austin.

Re: The Engine Has Restarted!

I agree with aisling, don't sweat the mixing if it isn't something you are good at. For me, Live is a music creation tool first, a performance tool second, and a mixing tool last. I try to get my mixes sounding as good as I can, but I don't labor over it because I realize I don't have the ears or te...
