Re: Does streaming really help?

Isn't the question a bit moot? The challenge is that streaming is already here and isn't going to go away. The whole industry has changed. I prefer the question: how do you make money in the new dispensation? Which I don't have a neat answer for. Bob Lefsetz says income shifts from recordings to liv...

Never used FL, but I definitely think Live's midi is its weakspot and could be improved a lot. Even the MIDI in Cubase, which I used a long time ago, was better than the current implementation in Live

Re: Write "post-it notes" on a project?

Yes, sorely needed. I think projects need a global note option (e.g. to track general mix notes and help manage actions required on a project) as well as a track note option. I quite like the idea given by Roberta Plant. And will try out the M4L plugin as a work-around. I think the notes function sh...

Re: 4 things that will make ableton more compatible for mixing

1. matching track names to audio files names implanted into it. Agreed. Like how a instrument plugin changes the name of the track...? 2. option to change for combined panner on every track. Agreed. I.e. select a few tracks and then be able to change both volume and pan (maybe by using a function k...

Re: My audio tracks are completely out of sync - any thoughts?

Maybe try test the delay "scientificallY" If you have an external midi synth then create a few bars of a simple 4/4 quantised hit (e.g. kick or snare) and then record a few bars of it. Then record a second track of the same. Are the two tracks in sync? Are the Midi notes and audio of the same instru...

Re: Omnisphere seems meh to me.

Does Omnisphere 2 have any sounds like Prince and the Revolution ? :-) you looking for that raspberry beret pre-set? :-) I am looking for that synth that does it all. Funk, new wave, big orchestra, you name it, I want it to do it. :-) Good luck with that. Haven't found one synth that "does it all" ...

Re: Windows Woes

Yes, MS is switching to the google/apple model - free o/s with reduced customisability and lots of marketing stuff. I just want a reliable o/s working seamlessly in the background. But the new MS/Google/Apple approach is about pushing marketing agendas when you're trying to get work done. I would h...

Re: Exporting Audio doesnt sound right

Thanks very much owlmerlyn, useful info! I'm exporting from Ableton at 192kb 24bit with no effects on Master channel and 3-6db headroom then using Ozone 6 as a stand alone to master, file sizes are huge and the export takes a long time, so doing it repeatedly to make small adjustments is a big hass...

Re: need help organizing VST's

The answer is .... it depends. 1. You can safely put all your vst's on a separate drive as long as the drive is fast enough. I have my vst's on my C: drive, but all my sampler libraries on another drive. So, for example, Kontakt.dll is in a custom folder on my C: drive, but all my Kontakt lib...

Re: Exporting Audio doesnt sound right

This is an older thread. But to be honest I have never noticed a problem with the exporting a mix. Maybe things have improved in 9 versus earlier versions. What I generally notice though, are volume differences. So, for instance, I render a track that I am used to listening to at a certain volume fr...

Re: Windows Woes

I am in a similar boat. My Windows 7, as great as it it, has gotten very bloated (and sometimes unstable) with all the programmes I keep trying. So I want to re-install. All things being equal I would re-install 7. But if I am going to go through the trouble associated with re-installing, I might as...

Re: multiple midi editing and inline editing

^ Yeah, that could be an acceptable solution for global transpose, along with a MIDI controller. Even then though, problems arise when I only want to transpose -some- tracks or clips, which is pretty much always the case. Ja, it works if you need to transpose a whole song to a different key. But do...

Re: multiple midi editing and inline editing

Gah. I'm working on some music, and realised I need to transpose one of the songs. Would have taken me literally one second with layered MIDI editing, but in Live, I need to enter every individual clip. Yep I want this feature, verrry much. As a work around, you can pull a transpose midi plugin to ...
