Re: producing dancehall - counting beats

There isn't really a right or wrong here. Both interpretations work. I tend use 60-90 bpm range for the more laid back, old school reggae grooves and 120-160 range for more energetic and contemporary grooves. Usually whichever count sits most naturally. I've seen reggae notated both ways in publishe...

Re: Can I decrease the attack on a already recorded bass part?

Try a compressor with a fast attack and quick release. I'd use an 'opto' model for this task.

Re: Live 8 / Live 7 CPU usage comparison

As the CPU usage ramps up I become more cautious about using the program. In the studio I trust 7 for all my sequencing looping requirements. It's performed well for years without issues. I own Live 8 but am not ready to use it in it's current state. Stability and small CPU footprint are important t...

Re: sound card/interface

Both these will do the job. The Focusrite is in your budget. The MOTU sounds better. Both have independent stereo outs for headphones.

Re: HELP! Dropouts / short freeze with unwaranted CPU-spikes

What kind of Motu-card are you running, Scraper7? MOTU Ultralite Mk3. More recently they have released MOTU Audio Express which is not so expensive. However it sounds like you might have other issues with your system. Have you tested for DPC latency? ... http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.sht...

Re: HELP! Dropouts / short freeze with unwaranted CPU-spikes

I had very similar (identical) issues with the AK1, the predecessor of Komplete audio 6. Similar issues are widely reported with Kontrol S4. I tried everything suggested by NI to 'fix' the issue by disabling services etc, even replaced my laptop mobo but the only thing that helped was using another ...

Re: Default Shuffle / Groove / Swing, whatever

Global Groove as it's implemented in Live7 is about the best Shuffle/Swing control on any program I've used. Straightforward, simple, incredibly functional and very grooovy if you know how to use it. Why on earth did they ever ditch it? Just give us an option in 'Preferences' to 'use V7 Global Groov...

Re: Split screen, dual monitor support PLEASE

yes please ... floating, independent windows ... I run three large monitors yet with Ableton I have to keep it all within the one restricted box ... except for VSTs which (sensibly) float anywhere you want them. Wish we could separate MIDI editor, Browser etc the same way. Surely this doesn't involv...

Tempo change / MTC sync issue

I run Ableton7, slaved to MTC coming from my audio recording system. Generally this works very well. If I insert a tempo change into Abletons's 'Master track' it works fine when Ableton is running on it's own. However, when Ableton runs in 'MTC slave mode' the tempo changes are ignored. Has anyone g...

I find session drums extremely useful, sound good and well integrated into the Live setup. For the extra $33, it's a complete bargain.

Re: Recording music in ableton - kit recommendation

I would recommend an audio interface with less Ins and Outs. With the Focusrite you're paying for lots of 'very cheap' AD/DA convertors, most of which you'll never use. Much better buy something like MOTU's 'Audio Express' where you get better quality conversion in smaller numbers (6 ins/6 outs). It...
