Yep, Live converts them back to wav when you import them into a set and saves them in a cache. But as long as you don't have your entire collection in a set, you can purge the cache as needed.

As people said, by just plugging the bass in you miss all the speaker/amp/cabinet goodness you are used to hearing. Either you simulate those with electronic plugs (some are very good) or you just continue to record the audio output of your rig.

Or just use the default pitch bend envelope. I guess most synths would respond to that by default.

Routing it to an audio track won't help either. One of the benefits (!) of midi is that you can change tempo without affecting pitch. You will have to put a transpose midi plug on the midi track and manually adjust the pitch (in semitones only). Or you could record your midi to audio clips and put t...

Looks at that guys setup. He has a MBP, a huge buffer and only uses 4% CPU. It is NOT overload. It is some sort of Firewire/soundcard/driver problem.

Recording is actually a pretty bad example, since it is your interface that does all the work. You could probably do a third recording in Windows Sound Recorder and get exactly the same result.

Yes, it is equal since the only thing you do is summing four 32 bit floats. There might be some small rounding down in the last digits, but there is no saying that one way might be better than another.

Test with the internal soundcard. Do you get drop outs then too?

If that works you could always use the FW interface for cueing and route the internal card to the PA. Kind of defeats the purpose, but it would be a quick and dirty fix.

If you just want a single trigger, you could use a mic of any sort instead. Just put the mic close to the surface you are going to hit, route the audio into Live and use an audio to midi converter like KTDrumTrigger (Google it) to convert to a midi note. With careful setup you could perhaps get it t...

I don't think Guru will be much easier on your CPU than Battery. I know that this is not what you want to hear, but your G4 is getting pretty old for a demanding real time performance setup using modern plugs.

Try to get Impulse to work. It is extremely light on the CPU.

Just drag it to the browser inside Live. If you want to save it as a self contained clip, do a Consolidate first. Otherwise Live will still reference the original file.
