Re: Macbook Pro n stuff

you could go to 5-6gb ram to allow live to use all 4gb + the os to use the resting 1-2gb for itself. more than 4gb won't be used by live. but what you need to find out is where the bottleneck is. is it the ram? is it the cpu? may it be the harddrive (lots of samples or such). i don't know how to mea...

Re: Mix control on the Autofilter

prepare a drywet track with two chains and save it to your favourites. so when ever you want to dry/wet mix something, drop it in, drop the stuff you want to adjust in. much more flexible than having to program in a dry wet knob into every device. esp. once you chain, say, some reverb behind, andor ...

Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?

Yup, HD's are currently a ginormous bottleneck if you are doing a ton of throughput on them. I guess it depends on the way you work. I max out 12 cores of Xeon before I max out a run of the mill 7200rpm drive. Although your projects will load faster than mine :) sure depends. wave-based projects (d...

Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?

Hard drives have relatively zilch to do with cpu load, as do audio cards. Unless you are doing onboard DSP on your card. Routing does make a huge impact on CPU usage as it limits you to one core for that track. On my 12 core Xeon, I can easily bring it to it's glitchy knees using Live doing complex...

Re: Macbook Pro 2.66GHz or 2.8GHz?

max difference possible is 2.8/2.66 = 1.0526 => ~5%. i would personally not even go for 2.66ghz (the i7 in the macs is just another i5 with a different name btw, nothing quadcore here). but anyways, consider getting at max 5% gain for the additional cost of (i checked the swiss prices) nearly 12%. f...

Re: realistic capabilities of ableton live

my point exactly, but even extended to the developers. they are as blind as users for the foreign code part => it's very hard for them to find out exactly what messes up their app, triggered by the foreign plugin. the result is less quality for interoperation between different companies compared to ...

Re: Picture of my NI S4

it looks great. i can't wait to play with it. i'm unsure if it fits my needs, but it looks great. no need for the jogwheels, would love to see that space a) filled with other functions or b) a slimmed down device instead.

but having a portable usb 4 channel mixer sounds nice.

Re: realistic capabilities of ableton live

Using Live's built-in instruments is the best way to remain relaxed and happy during the show. :D (seriously.) -Luddy really? what happened to the vst or au standard? And with all the bugs ableton is producing..how can you be sure that their own plugs are allways the crash safe ones? Is this a tech...

Re: Light Peak

funny, that's a good point. maybe wireless battery charger type technology will come into play. so, peripherals will get faster, you can throw more CPUs at the problem, I guess the PCI bus would be the next bottleneck. :? happily, the pci bus got obsoleted by pci express since quite some years. tha...

Re: PLEASE go back to the warping engine of v7 and before !

i so far had not had to tell any transient where to belong.

i guess they added extra code only active with your license, just messing with you all the time.

and in this future, you still are not capable to explain what you do exactly and where the problems occur. since i know you. fun fact indeed.

Re: warp as 128 bar loop ????

i don't fit it into two bars. the 8.5bar recording snaps to 8 bars, then it's a bit like quantisation, but for loops. and 8 bars is sensible and correct, as it is a multiple of 2 bars => fits great with 2 bar loops (and 16 bar loops and such. i mean that part of math you understand, i hope). but as ...

Re: warp as 128 bar loop ????

how is external material different? stuff you record while on stage? or midi? or what? "external material" does not mean anything, it could be too much different things. and for internal recordings, it's not redundant. as said, it delivers exactly what is needed: the option to loop to a power of 2 w...

Re: warp as 128 bar loop ????

okay, it's NOT half developed. i record an audio sample of around 8 - 9 bars, a bit over 8 bars. i can click once the menu, select loop as 8 bars and get a perfect looped version of the recording. show me a faster, more simple way. thanks to you i learned the power of that feature now, and it's far ...
