Re: Drum Rack black square with Launchpad

Hi all Is it me, or does Ableton Live not autoselect whichever drums is visible in the black square in Drum Racks, and matches it to the User 1 mode on the Launchpad? If yes – any of you have a solution to that problem (I see it as a problem at least)? - Alex This is correct; the Launchpad does not...

Re: How many songs in a 3hr house set?

When faced with a similar situation (my first time playing out, never played for that many hours at a time before), I decided the best way to find out would be to practice playing at home for that many hours. So I did. It worked great.

Re: EQ three total crap for DJing?

Do I understand correctly that you're running your tracks with the volume faders at -0 so any little change puts you in the red?

Re: Generator (Automat) !!

Oh wow, I remember Automat! I played with it years in a less stable version, eventually gave up on it when I standardized on a Windows system, but it always made nice sounds.

I'm back on OSX now and think I will give it another go. Great synth.

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

Ableton's Undo buffer limitation has been an issue for a long time. If you have controllers that send dense MIDI data (such as wiimotes), your live set will crash once the undo buffer reaches a size of 2GB. Ableton has expressed their indifference to the problem many times. They simply don't care. ...

Re: Why did my 'Yellow' warp markers dissappear?

Happy to help! You can use a warp marker for that if you really want to, although I don't recommend it since it's impossible to distinguish from the other ones. Honestly the best way to do it is just to know your tracks really well, but if you don't mind spending a few Session slots, you can set up ...

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

I think the QuNeo uses a fundamentally different methodology for recognizing taps than the MPD does. Once you've pressed a pad down, it won't register any new "hits" until you've let go - instead, these come through as varying pressure. The MPD, on the other hand, I think will register a new note ev...

Re: Synthesizers

"Best possible" solution doesn't exist. This is a "right tool for the job" kind of situation. Do you want a sound that a particular synth is famous for? Then it's probably worth it to go buy that synth. But if you have nothing in mind? Stick with what you already have until you know what specificall...

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

Is the remote script share-able? :) That would at least convince me to keep the QuNeo & sell my MPD18. Here is my bare-bones User Remote Script for QuNeo for Drum Racks . This script assumes you're using QuNeo preset 1, straight from the factory. - The 16 drum pads map to whatever is visible in the...

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

It's too bad they didn't include the user remote functions as a default in their custom remote script. This means you have to take up and extra slot in the Control Surfaces in the Preferences . Also they didn't provide the uncompiled (.py) remote script so you'll have to make one from scratch or go...

Oh yeah! I'd be happy to share it with you, if it's of any interest. I'm at work at the moment so I can't get to it until later, but I'll post it when I get home. Are you on Windows or OSX? I can bundle some basic instructions for installing it if you've never messed with them before. I just learned...

Re: Use amplifier as speaker

If this is a guitar amplifier, make sure it can handle the big low bass frequencies. Some amps' speaker cones are not rated for use at these frequencies and can tear. This is why, for example, you'll frequently hear "don't play a bass guitar through a guitar amp." Many amps are just fine with this t...

Re: Mac Users: AU or VST in Ableton?

it really depends whether the plug-in was designed ground-up as an AU, or directly ported from its VST version. The latter allegedly involves a tiny bit more processing overhead. This is true, and has contributed to the idea that "VST is faster than AU." This isn't necessarily true, but many commer...

Re: Why did my 'Yellow' warp markers dissappear?

Where did you add them from? When you add an audio file to a Live project and warp it, those warp markers are saved with the clip, not the audio file itself. You can have several clips with different warp markers (and warp modes, etc) that reference the same audio file. If you just add that file aga...

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

Put in some more time with it last night, but not sure this thing is going to be right for me. I feel like it's the opposite of intuitive. Granted I've only had it a couple days, but I feel like the sliders & rotaries aren't exact enough to avoid grabbing the mouse & making corrections, especially ...
