Currently using a Novation X-Station and it is sweet for control over Live (you need to write your own template), decent audio interface for live work and the synth is not bad either, everything in one box. The Novation Xio looks way cool though.

PDA/Handheld for composing and audio capture on the move

I am looking for a PDA/handheld for the usual email/internet stuff. I also want to replace my excellent but bulky Roland PMA for noting down musical ideas on the move, and an audio recorder would be great too. Also,I would also like the option to control Ableton Live via WIFi. Currently I am looking...

The 5400 rpm drive will generate less noise, heat and use less battery power (we are talking about tiny difFerences here but every little bit helps) . In the past I have avoided storing/streaming audio files or sets on the actual drive that is physically the boot drive (even if it is partitioned) so...

I spent the weekend testing out a public beta of 6 on my AMD 4800 dual core (2 gig RAM, X-Station with 9ms output latency and 4ms input latency). No crashes in two long sessions. A 44.1 khz 24 bit project that was hitting 50- 60 per cent on my 3.2 gHz, 2 gig RAM P4 with Live 5.2 was hitting the AMD ...

A very experienced professional engineer once said to me (unfortunatley after listening to some of my self mixed tracks) mixing in the box is like 'trying to piss down a straw'. I guess that the message he was trying to convey was that in the box mixing can only really deal with a limited amount of ...

Give it a couple of years and Behringer will release similar technology for two hundred dollars or less (probably 199 dollars). Made in China and all that that entails.

Not very helpful either, but I had exactly the same problem with a PCR-30. The middle C and D keys stopped registering after about a year of ownership. Opened it up and blew some compressed air through but it made no difference.

Re: game console controller

Has anybody used a ps2, gamecube or xbox controller with like? Yes. I have just done an interactive street performance in Sardinina using Live to play loops and a PS2 game controller so that members of the audience can control their own sounds in conjuction with the pre-recorded arrangement. Machin...

Thanks Machinate

Many thanks to Machinate (Andreas) for writing a Max Patch to allow me to use a gamepad as a midi control device. I will be using the gamepad and the patch next Wednesday on Isola Di La Maddalena (Sardinia) for a live interactive set. The audience will be using the gamepad to generate midi informati...
