Re: I wish Live had the NNXT or NN19

The thing I miss from NNXT is that there doesn't seem to be automatic pitch detection and root note assignment in Sampler. Even though NNXT got things wrong sometimes it was a massive time saver.

PS if there is such a function hidden away pls post it here and you will have my thanks........

Re: Scarlett Plug in Suite

If it's just for the one tune you could use the "collect all and save" function with the CD in place. That should collect everything and put it in the project folder although I've never tried that direct from a CD.

Re: Looking to swap drums and still use tune/decay

OK, I'm assuming here from the question that you're a beginner with Ableton, apologies if you already know some of this. If you double click on a drum pad it will open out into a sample editor, caller a simpler. The tune/decay functions are in fact in here (usually it uses detune and envelope decay)...

Re: How do I assign MIDI CC without manually moving MIDI knobs?

Well, I'd like that as well, just for ease of setup. For example, I use wii remotes via Osculator sometimes, and for assigning any of the buttons you have to deactivate the accelerometer otherwise if the remote moves even slightly it assigns MIDI control to the accelerometer's CC. It's a PITA after ...

Re: Scarlett Plug in Suite

try rescanning the plugins (from preferences-files and folders). Failing that try reinstalling the plugs I guess. A few people I know have had this issue with focusrite/novation plugs and one of these normally does the trick. Also, if the probelm you're having is with the AU version on a mac, try ru...

Re: Who'd like updated versions of the APC40 and Launchpad?

+1 LP and Nocturn. It's cheap as you like compared to an APC or push. It's worth fiddling about with the Automap settings a bit to get the nost out of Nocturn though and I still find Automap a little flaky on occasion and I'm not a massive fan of it. I wouldn't like to use Automap on the LP but I wo...

Re: Microphone for recording pretty much anything and everything

At the college where I work we did a bunch of mic tests and the SE2000 condenser came out extremely well especially as it's dead cheap. Works on pretty much everything except on kick drums. We even used it as a single mic on a drum kit 60s style and it sounded good. Not as good as a 414 but it is ab...

Re: Ableton 8 - Grainy time strech

There are five timestretching algotithms - "beats" tries to detect quiet points in a track and apply all its timestretching there. In a drum track this will keep the drum hits sounding the same and avoid phasing issues by doing all the timestretching in the gaps between. Clearly this isn't a great i...

Re: Is there a way to change the key of an audio clip?

You can't really change an audio clip from major to minor. The intervals are different. However if Live 9's audio to MIDI works as advertised you may be able to convert to MIDI then tweak the intervals. It looks like it will also try to match the timbre of the audio clip with the MIDI instrument but...

Re: Learning to DJ

I don't really DJ so not sure how much this is worth but.....I have friends who do DJ with Ableton and they say basically there's no point in just playing and mixing tunes. You can do it but something like Traktor is much friendlier for that. Instead, go crazy with it - you can have say 5 "decks" - ...

Re: Resonators - track note by keyboard

Short answer, it can. Long answer, if you tweak resonator 1 note control you'll see it has a range from C-1 to C5 centred round C2. Activate the MIDI mapping for the resonator and press and hold C2, then, while still holding it, press C-1 and C5 (you'll probably need to use the octave up and down bu...

Re: Poll : rate Live 9 . Vote now!

Well OK since I started the M4L thing I guess I should chip in my bit. I hardly ever program with M4l. I got it assuming I would, but somehow I never have the time. I use M4L all the time though. I find that every time I want to do something in Live that it doesn't have the capability for, someone h...

Re: Poll : rate Live 9 . Vote now!

I think the big thing, which people aren't mentioning, is M4L integration as part of suite. This is at a guesstimate an extra £150 or so worth of software chucked in. I know it's a bit of a bitch for those of us who already have M4L but for anyone else it's a bargain and I still hold out hope for a ...

Re: How to sustain a sample

If you loop a middle section it will sometimes turn out OK. You should make sure the loop points are at zero crossings at the same point in the wave's cycle and at pretty much the same amplitude or it will pop or click each loop. There is a snap function in the sampler which can help with this. Putt...
