Re: APC 40 cannot setup for life of me!

Have you set it up as a control surface in the fields at the top of the MIDI sync page? Above the normal MIDI settings. "Control Surface", "Input" and "Output" should all read APC40 (although for some reason on our old work PCs it reads as "AKAI USB audio device" in the input and output fields altho...

Re: Triggering video while performing live

You can do this with locators. Put a locator at the start of the video, Midi map it to the same key as you're using for the scene, then the scene will trigger the video as well. You can do this with more than one video as long as all the videos are on the same track, and use the arrange page loop br...

Re: listening simultaneously through headphones & monitors

OK, I'm hoping I'm pitching this right and not telling you something you already know. Your soundcard has two inputs (one mic and one guitar), so you can only hook up two things at once. The number of outputs (which people have been talking about regarding the Fast Track Pro) doesn't matter for that...

Re: listening simultaneously through headphones & monitors

Having said that, is all you want to do listen simultaneously to the music in phones and monitors? Or do you want to do something more complicated like send click to phones but not the monitors? First, I faced the problem of being disable to connect a mixer to ableton because of the absence of the ...

Re: listening simultaneously through headphones & monitors

I use M audio gear because I've found it to be pretty robust. We use 20 Fast Track Pros at the college where I work and the students haven't managed to break any of them in four years. Sound quality is fine for the money IMHO. Having said that, is all you want to do listen simultaneously to the musi...

Re: Issues with live 8 and the mBox pro 3

There's a known issue with a Pro Tools driver (if you have an MBox 3 I'm guessing you have PT....) in Lion. We had what sounds like this issue on our work Macbook and removing the driver cured it (even though it's a MIDI driver....go figure). Look for DigiDioMidiDriver and remove it. It doesn't seem...

Re: Variable set of midicontrol?

If you're using software FX within Ableton you could do something with chains I think. Put your FX patches in chains in a rack and MIDI map ALL the control maps you want. Don't worry if the controls do different things on different chains right now. Then, separate out the chains in the chain selecto...

Re: Need help with sync settings...

"remote" enables you to map MIDI CCs and similar to your controllers - mapping a rotary from a controller to a filter in ableton for example. If you hit "MIDI" on the top right you can MIDI map any control that shows up in purple by clicking on the control in Ableton then tweaking the fader or rotar...

Re: A VST plugin to record individual tracks in ableton for mac?

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I'm afraid I cant record it in live's arrangement section because I am using an apc 40 and part of my set is to use the global stop and play buttons--- that stops the recording --- Is there any way to set it that the recording can still keep going even if you hit the ...

Re: Focusrite Saffire PRO 14 HELP!!!!

I've had problems with card slots vibrating loose with bass! So I'd just go with a USB interface.

The only laptop with FW around now seems to be Mac.

Re: A VST plugin to record individual tracks in ableton for mac?

Can you record it in the ableton arrange view? Then if you need to mix in another DAW select "all tracks" when you bounce them out in the render menu. If you need audio recordings of your MIDI track performance you could do it internally via sends to other audio tracks. Or just record the MIDI as pl...

Re: midi mapping not working but midi learn in vst does. HELP

If that's the screenshot of your preferences you need to turn the remote on (button on the right). The "track" input will pick up keys to play or record instruments but to trigger loops and work CC's you need "remote".

Re: Playing live gigs - how to get the levels right?

I always reckon it's worth hiring a practice room with a decent PA for at least one session when I'm going to play out new material. It's also worth considering, in the longer term, a soundcard with multi outputs (I use a M-Audio FW 410 which has 8 analogue outs), then you can route drums, bass and ...
