Re: Monitoring: Just what is it?

Monitoring is what in the track is playing out the speakers - what is being monitored. In = whatever is going in the track input goes directly to the speakers (via any FX chain). This is good for streaming audio e.g. singing through Ableton's FX in a live situation. Any clips in the track will not p...

Re: multiple exports of the same live set sounds different

Well that particular track looks like some slow running volume LFO or modulator is in a different phase for each track. Don't know what synth you have but maybe finding that LFO and setting it to a sync or trigger mode rather than a free running mode would make it consistent. That kind of thing.

Re: How to get a Timpani roll sound

I was reading some stuff on drum MIDI in general. What a lot of people don't realise is even the best drummer will generally have one hand (and leg) slightly weaker than the other. So if you're doing a roll having the velocities alternate between slightly more/slightly less will give a more realisti...

Re: Is there a plugin that triggers MIDI whenever a transient is

Also since that post I have been experimenting with this. The live meters in Max take audio in and put out a numerical value for the amplitude, and you can use a greater than (>) object to send a 1 if the amplitude is above a given value and a 0 if not. You can use the 1 to trigger a sample in the p...

I'm not getting this so I don't think it's inherent to Live. Not sure how much that helps.......

Re: Kittens/cats and your studio - how to deal with them.

Speaking of monitors, I continue to be astonished at just how much a kitten sleeping in front of a speaker alters the sound. Even quite a small kitten.

Re: Kittens/cats and your studio - how to deal with them.

In my experience the disadvantages of kittens at your workstation are outweighed by OMG KITTENS. Just put up with it is my advice.

Yes I currently have a kitten.

Re: Mac OS aggregate device for Live

That sounds like a sample rate issue. I can't see from the video what sample rate you have set but looking at the specs the DJM2000 will only run at 44.1 or 48 KHz and I know that Airas will only run at 96HKz so that may be the problem. First off if you aren't already try disconnecting the DJM then ...

Re: Share your beginners mistakes.

When I first started mixing I had no real idea what compressors did so I just didn't use them, and barely used EQ. I just worked with the levels and volume automation. It took ages to get anything right and then I wondered why everything was so super quiet. The thing is, I came back to those mixes a...

Re: Recording (and then sending) midi clock with Ableton

Can you sync the input (instead of the output) from the sequencer? Then Ableton might be able to record your tempo changes on the master track. Don't know how that works from a dark time but I know it will work for e.g. Novation Impulses which runs a MIDI clock for the arpeggiator so I imagine it wo...
