Re: Live upgrade cost question.

Nah. As I mentioned in the post I linked, I'm fully covered with Standard and 3rd party stuff at present, as I also have all the individual Ableton licenses I really need for Live, including Max. I was just being curious what the transition price inside the same major version would be for me, and wa...

Re: Live upgrade cost question.

Yeah, it's an error in the way the upgrade path is taken into account when going from the Standard edition of the same major Live version to the Suite. If it's intentional, it's still an error in my opinion  (as in, it's just wrong.)

Re: Freeze clips (rather than the entire track)

Yes, but that was just a typical use case. You can for example send the sound to Reverb, but then use Time Shift to delay the actual sound source so you're reverb will sound before the signal it responds to. That's very cool :) and also a technique I use in Live using Max based routing (and perfect...

Re: Freeze clips (rather than the entire track)

Well, actually - Bitwig has an aptly called Time Shift device that can delay your signal or move it forward in time (by delaying everything else). Really clever and useful (eg. to do a look-ahead compressor): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQfSwv_bcSE Hehe, yes I'm of course aware of actual look a...

Re: Freeze clips (rather than the entire track)

BTW, this is also available in Bitwig - I can grab the clip, drag it with a modifier (I think it's Alt, not 100% sure) further down the same track or to a completely different track and the instrument (+nested FX) will bo bounced to audio. And oh, that is so freezingly cool it approaches absolute z...

Re: Freeze clips (rather than the entire track)

So in this particular case, when running the track, FM-4 and 5 nested FX get dynamically replaced by audio sample, so they don't consume CPU cycles and they're turned back on as soon as MIDI shows up. Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate that, it really is quite cool and I wasn't aware of this...

Re: Freeze clips (rather than the entire track)

Combining frozen and unfrozen parts on the same arrangement track would be problematic because of the conflicts between deactivated and activated effect plugins (the state of something being frozen vs. the state of the chain being calculated in realtime). An alternative, additional "quick render on...

Re: What is sped up/improved by an Audio Interface?

A more efficient audio interface (as in, being more efficient as a whole, including the drivers) will have a positive performance impact on all realtime audio tasks. It naturally won't effect the loading speed of complex instruments, but it will have an effect on how many instrument/effect instances...

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

Nokatus tried, but his analogy of the scanner was only good for trying to explain how the wave "passes through" our ears, but seemed to strengthen my skewed argument. Because that was how I was seeing it. Like feeding a foolscap paper through a scanner, but having only letter size paper for it to b...

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

However, I am still not seeing any explanation as to how one is able to hear a 60Hz sine wave in a room with no dimension bigger than say 16ft. Based on the theory I have learned, we should only be hearing the higher octaves and/or the other partials that make up the tone if it is not a pure wave. ...

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

Loving it so far. The headphone argument is a good one. So it makes me think that there are two ways (and maybe more) in which we experience frequencies. 1. Their Intensity & 2. The wave itself It seems to me you are just somewhat misunderstanding the "wave" bit in how we hear sound, guessing from ...

Re: Freeze clips (rather than the entire track)

I think you could simply extend the freeze function to a single clip, apply the same colour scheme to denote that the clip is frozen, and there ya go. Combining frozen and unfrozen parts on the same arrangement track would be problematic because of the conflicts between deactivated and activated ef...
