Christopher Willits is a gentleman and a scholar. Love this guy. Have you checked out his remix competition? Loads of stems, you can see his process deconstructed in an interesting way.

Re: ableton sound engine and new monolake album
An obvious internet discussion problem is tone, you can't start out accusatory or conspiratorial and expect to have a reasoned discourse. Plugin delay compensation, digital summing etc. - these are often discussed but valid questions. Thanks for the replies, interesting & informative. Workflow susta...

Re: Recording drums with 3 mics...?
A technique that's fairly common and worth trying is to mic the kick & snare, then place an overhead condencer behind the kit, somewhere over the drummer's head. Maybe start with center of the kit & experiment until you find the right mic placement. Have you ever looked at the recorderman technique...

Re: How Long Did it Take?
I recommend going through the video tutorials on the Ableton site first, and keeping the manual handy for a couple of weeks. There are also the tutorials (and manual) within the program itself, which are presented as Live Sets. The university of YouTube is a good description. People have created a t...

I'd probably have to go back to my old job, working on the Large Hedron Collider, and play Indie Rawk in my spare time. Or I'd just go back to the bottle...

Re: Transitions/Build ups
I've been using reverb by taking maybe a clap & a reverb from the song, tweak the reverb (longer, less dampened) 100% wet, record the result of that one hit and use that. Then edits, fades, reverse, volume automation, filter automation etc. Highly unoriginal but it's related to the material already ...

Re: Good Swells?
You can widen things with simple delay. Switch it to time mode, set one channel to 1 ms and the other channel anywhere between 10 and 30 ms. Make sure you set it to 100% wet and put the feedback down to 0. I think you might find this an interesting read: http://www.lostinmusik.net/?p=1952 Excellent...

This forum got behind years. I'm surprised to see many noobs in this forum still believe difference of the daws' sound. I'm in Galapagos island now . From what I understand, DAWs do sound slightly different. Digital summing & plug in delay compensation are handled differently. How big a deal this i...
