Re: The DAW is dead

Ha  < I've missed that emoticon Sometimes I read your posts and feel like they should finish with "Just like that!" and a fez emoticon. Sounds like your scene is "show biz", and techno was only ever a bit player. That unfortunate path leads into the sound-artist-experimental-jazz woods, where n...

Re: The DAW is dead

Yeah right to the end Lemmy maintained he just played rock and roll. A lot of the best still just say house or techno. It's not necessarily about doing anything new or groundbreaking, just has to do what it says on the tin.

Re: The DAW is dead

Not original techno which was almost like freeform jazz. Repetitive beats comes from the earliest primal drums. Pointing and calculating with a mouse in front of a screen it wasn't. this is kind of what I'm getting at. I think the down side of electronic music became that making it could be come ve...

Re: The DAW is dead

I was about to add, it's all about context (thanks for the Essential mix btw!). I caught Carl Craig a year or two ago and I've always listened to his tracks on Beatport and thought they were a bit too deep, but hearing them in the club reminded me how it sounds in the club with the subs when everyth...

Re: The DAW is dead

Angstrom, I feel more or less exactly the same, but I don't think it's fair. I'd be surprised if you've combed the vast underbelly of the Internets and heard even a tiny fraction of what's out there, and neither have I, it's impossible. In fact maybe a year ago the amount uploaded to Youtube every d...

Re: What is a torrent File and how do i open it?

"Piracy" is so 1999. Bit Torrents are just a very effective form of file sharing technology and not synonymous with piracy, I've seen plenty of legit uses. Plus I seem to remember in the distant fog of time that a little birdy told me Ableton actually made their own crack that would stop working aft...

That's almost straight out of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ... I see what you did there.

Get me some golf shoes, or we'll never make it out of here alive!

Re: Why do we make music?

I agree, you're totally right.

My own pet issue of the moment is wanting to move back to the UK to be with family now that we're all getting old and I have some great memories of gigs in the UK. The whole idea of doing a neon sports casino gig now makes me feel physically ill.
