Re: Another reason why Ableton is NOT a pro DAW

I didn't read through all the posts (riveting though they were), but I just wanted to point out that the only so-called "offline" plug-ins I've run into are very dicey under any host. They store audio behind the scenes, so they create an additional and hidden file dependence to a project. In the cas...

Re: Dynamically change presets and samples live.

I struggled with this for several years, in a very similar situation to yours. To support our live show, I had a Live set with instrument and effect racks with one chain (instance of an instrument or effect) per song, and a single MIDI controller would simultaneously select the chains on multiple tr...

Re: Samplerate and bitdepth

Right, the expensive conversion (and the only one that matters in this case) is going from one sample rate to another. 16 bits to 24 doesn't entail any real conversion, the 16 bits are simply inserted into a 24 bit field, maybe with some dither but in practice, with no dither. All that said, I use 4...

Re: A way to "import" a custom template?

Well, the most straightforward way is to open the template, then find the original project in the browser, expand it (don't open it, that will close the template), and drag selected tracks from the original into the template. Sometimes to make this process easier, I first open the original project a...

Re: Microphones and electronics.. Any experts??

That is really, really cool. haha. It's an absolutely ordinary dynamic mic (like, say, an SM58) from most points of view. The SM58 is the ubiquitous 'ball' mic you see everywhere (bars etc.) The 577B has an on/off switch, which is common enough on dynamics. No phantom power needed. It has lower impe...

Re: Live sound

This is a can of worms haha. I have the backing tracks and live audio outputs (live vocals, keyboards, etc.) broken out into about 6 audio outputs. Ordinarily we mix them in an audio interface (RME UFX) and just send the stereo mix to the FOH, but we can send the individual channels too. After doing...

Re: A way to "import" a custom template?

AFAIK it is not possible to import keyboard and MIDI mappings. The best I've been able to come up with is to open the new template, drag all the stuff from the old project over, and save the template out as the new project. (ouch.)

Re: EQ8 & Auto Filter adding 'Colour' to live set.

You're getting a 1.5 - 3 dB boost from EQ8 with all gains set to 0dB and the Qs in the default (0.71) position?!

Are you sure?

Re: Dry drum beat vs. Drumbeat with real room reverb comparison

I stumbled into a variation on this recently that sounded pretty cool. Mic in front of speakers, but the return path from the mic also feeding the monitors (in a feedback loop), and record the wet (feedback) sound. Obviously you want to keep monitor levels under firm control for this haha otherwise ...

Re: Options.txt from 8.2.6 Binary Mac OS X

this just caught my eye : "NoMidiEventFiltering" possible sysex solution ? please please please please I really doubt it. Live filters redundant CC events (control "change" is only needed when there's an actual change of value, and Live takes advantage of this to thin out MIDI streams by default). ...

Re: Multi Samples in Sampler

Hmm, I don't *think* that the batch processor in Peak can do what you describe (cut up a single long sample of multiple pitches and get the root key right). The Redmatika tools can do this. I don't necessarily recommend them however, for other reasons. It's not at all necessary though. I've made doz...

Re: Multi Samples in Sampler

For that to work (what you saw in the video), I think the root key has to be set correctly in each sample file. An audio editor like Peak can do this, and so can resampling software that is specifically for creating multisample sets by automated sampling. But if your samples are created by plain old...
