Re: help... live.remote~ burning a hole in my cpu

The remote~ objects only work at their input rate, i.e., the rate of whatever is feeding them. If you take a look at some of Robert Henke's patches (free to download, then you have to do some wading because they are pretty big patches) you'll see some nice examples of moderate downsampling on the in...

Re: WTF is up with China?

I wonder if you can get good indian buffet or shish kabob in china? For Indian food in Beijing, I like the Raj Pavilion on Gulouxi Dajie. Not sure if they have a buffet... There are a couple other Indian restaurants here that do have buffets. Shish kabob: there is a decent Lebanese / Palestinian re...

Re: Does a duplicated clip use twice the memory?

there's other stuff in there, beyond just your samples!

do you mean that the memory image of Live is bigger than the sum of your samples, i.e., while Live is running? Or do you mean the .als file on disk is bigger than the sum of the samples?

Re: Time signature changes

I do a fair number of songs (in live shows) that have complicated meter changes, and I've managed to make them all work by various workarounds. Basically I turn off the built-in metronome, record my own click track and send it to the cue output, and then set up follow actions appropriately. Since yo...

Re: The Max API CtrlEnvelope generator, this is just stupid?

It's not that it stays on because Live doesn't recognize note-off messages. Live (and Max) certainly recognizes note off messages, haha, otherwise no one would be able to play Operator or Analog or Electric or Sampler or whatever other instrument. It stays on because it's written to stay on once it ...

Re: How to: automatically launch the next clip ?

Read the follow actions section of the manual again. I think you missed something. Hmm, I must have missed it too. A follow action requires that the time at which the action should be taken be specified in bars/beats/16ths. There's no way to launch the following clip "at the end of this one" withou...

Re: Does anyone here use Solid State Drives?

Exactly, this is what I'm considering. Using the SSD to hold projects for live performances, projects I'm actively working on and audio libraries I regularly need to load. So it's working out well for you? Do you have an external SSD? Hi, yeah, it's working fine so far. I have a 2009 17" MBP with t...

Re: Recommend me a one-knob filter please?

Sonalksis TBK is a one-knob filter (plus a couple switches). It has quite a particular sound, not a general-purpose filter but very nice in the right situation.

Re: Does anyone here use Solid State Drives?

I have an SSD in the laptop I use on stage. I have configured it to hold my live sets, samples, library, etc. There are advantages to both ways of organizing things. If you run your machine entirely from SSD(s), you're much less likely to suffer a disk failure of course. That's a pretty big deal. If...

Re: Warped clips not "matching" in arrangement view?

Not sure what's going on, it's hard to figure out exactly what you're doing and what's going wrong from your description. Some simple stuff: make sure warping is still turned on when the clip is in arrangement view. Make sure that you warped clips to the correct tempo. Make sure that you haven't ina...

Re: Warped clips not "matching" in arrangement view?

if the clips have different tempos (see clip inspector) they won't automagically line up in the arrangement view; they'll be "relative" to the current arrangement tempo.

follow action: end of clip

I'm working with some songs that don't have a fixed tempo (think classical music, with tempo constantly ebbing and flowing), and when I cut it into scenes I have the problem that I can't set a proper follow action time for the scenes, because they don't correspond to bars/beats/16ths. What I'd reall...

Re: Sick of hearing about M4L

I would love it if Ableton were to look at the things people were asking for with M4L and find ways to integrate them into basic Live using their excellent UI. Focus M4L on the real hackers who are trying to do new and unusual things, and who are the kind of people who'd be interested in Max in the...

Re: What exactly does "Repair Library" do?

simple, don't mess with the Library to begin with. you misuse Live and wonder why it breaks? how am I misusing? isn't the library supposed to be an easy path to stuff you reuse? like presets and samples? am I missing something? :( I think that what he meant is that 'repair library' should only be n...
