Re: A thing that could make Live a more unique DAW, microtuning.

Never use the stuff, myself - a good coll to replace the mtof object's functionality in any synth I create works just fine - but I'm chiefly interested in microtonalism in terms of the work I do all the time and the tunings/scales [JI variations on central Javanese with some lattice extensions] I us...

Re: VIZZIE inside ableton

While you're sufficiently far along that this might involve some "not invented here," I'd like to mention that the upgrade of Vizzie that apppeared alongside the new release of Max 5.1.8 includes a number of new modules that you might find to be useful - some more than others, I imagine. 2...

Re: Are M4L devices compiled and uneditable?

The devices are openable and editable to suit the most delicate of aesthetic sensibilities (within the range of what is available through Max for Live). :-)

Re: multiple instances of M4L patch within a song

One obvious bit is that you haven't set the Parameter Mode Enable
attribute for the pattr object bound to the function object (---shape).
That would certainly change things.

Re: M4L needed just for using M4L-made devices ?

If your question has to do with using devices created with Max for Live, then the answer is yes - you *do* need Max for Live to run those devices. As was pointed out, the demo periods should give you plenty of time to investigate what's out there - both what comes bundled with Max for Live and the m...

While I generally don't like self-promotion, I would humbly suggest taking a look at this: http://cycling74.com/2010/06/14/noise-t ... he-random/

Re: Creative Commons and maxforlive.com

Given that using something that someone else makes and attempts to protect in some way using CC potentially exposes *anyone else* licensing or using the work up the food-chain to litigation, you might be surprised to learn just how quickly even *the vaguest whiff of impropriety* can "burn you&q...

Re: Creative Commons and maxforlive.com

Your points are well taken. In the context of small community settings where it is unlikely that any sort of legal redress is possible, I'd say that the community itself has to bear the brunt of deciding how sanction occurs (cd. the Amish practice of "shunning"). It's also the reason that ...

Re: LFO everything 1.5 (NeW version ! ! ! !)

Cargo-cult patching is and remains a fact of life. I shudder to think how much of my crap patching might be out there somewhere [happily, I fully expect it's not much]. :-) Beyond questions of honor or integrity or honesty or credibility that may be in play, the more chilling possible effect has to ...

As a way of shredding one's own credibility in public view, failing a sight-singing exam would be right up there. :-)

Re: LFO Everything used non-commercial licensed m4l patch code

When plagiarism does occur in academic settings (where it's taken very seriously, indeed), my wife usually describes them by the degree of effort put into disguising the plagiarized source. One physics professor friend of ours spotted a great example of "borrowing" that referenced his unde...

Re: LFO everything 1.5 (NeW version ! ! ! !)

Resolving the matter privately seems a good idea, but it'd be an even better idea if the result of said resolution was made public, David - the notion of taking someone else's work and reselling it without their permission would, I expect be a matter of some concern in a community such as this one w...

Re: VIZZIE inside ableton

There's an incremental update for the GRABBR that defaults to 640x480, as do the rest of the Vizzie objects on the website in the incremental uploads area. We didn't make any attempt to support 1280 x 720 - the idea was that this would be for either beginning users or provide a starting point for mo...
