Re: Macbook purchasing question

Maybe you can take your project to the shop and try the performance on those two macbooks.

Re: Macbook purchasing question

Check the ableton performance tests in this forum to see the results for these CPU's in a macbook
Checking and comparing some CPU benchmarks might help.

Re: Ableton CPU problem?

I had the same processor a while ago and it is capable of doing some nice work. However an I5 or I7 CPU has way better performance. A project of 8GB is large. You froze all your tracks so this means (I am not totally sure though) all your tracks are being read from your harddrive. I think your compu...

Same here

Edit: I am happier with 9.1.6 though, it shows less problems. I had to disconnect my USB audiocard more often with 9.1.5 to load some saved sets

Ram is relatively cheap now

? I have seen prices going up with more than fifty procent the last 18 months....

@ Golemus:
Maybe just try and buy the extra RAM and just return it if your not satisfied ?

Re: 16GB RAM is it worth it...?

For me it was worth it. But then again my live set uses around 10gb. I have to say that even with smaller sets I have the feeling this extra ram speeds up workflow. Copying and replacing large parts of arrangements is much faster and snappier. Ram is expensive these days.....If you can afford it, do...

Re: OSX + Live Audio Performance

At the moment i am resampling all Serum patches as Sampler patch and I have removed all max things. Now the CPU is beneath 20% and I do not get clicks so far. :-) I told you so. "Maybe you are using a plugin or some device that can be a part of the problem. Try figuring out which one causes problem...

Re: OSX + Live Audio Performance

No I do not have those plug-ins. But is it really a big problem for you ? Are you having these problems while performing live or will these clicks show up while arranging a track in the end ? I myself can live with an occasional click as long as I can avoid them while finishing/arranging a track or ...

Re: OSX + Live Audio Performance

Like I said, I am thinking launching too many tracks in one scene is causing these clicks. Try less tracks and remove stop buttons in scenes with no clips in it. Why would that even be if the CPU load is low? It's still unclear to me if the dropouts, the crackles and these short clicks supplied by ...

Re: OSX + Live Audio Performance

How many tracks are we talking about ?
I remember having clicks while using many tracks. It helped removing the stop buttons of tracks with no clips in it.

Re: OSX + Live Audio Performance

How high is your sample rate ? If it is too high you will get clicks also. Set it at 44.1 / 48 If you are using samples it can help using the same audio quality for each sample. Using different qualities at the same time or very high audio-quality samples may sometimes result in clicks n pops. Load ...

Re: Low spec laptop - Win XP or Win7 ?

Try and optimize W7. You can always go back to XP.
Live will run. I don't think you will notice much difference in performance except in the use of RAM. I prefer working on W7 though.
Working on a low spec machine makes you creative in a different way just because of those low resources.
