Re: Midi map crossfader on a friends computer?
I think you will need 2 midi cables for bidirectional messaging. In the simplest case, assuming the apc is capable (i dont have one so I dont know), you could mirror the effect of one apc on the other by connecting midi in from one to midi out on the other, but you want to have user-defined mappings...

Re: Incredibly frustrated..
Ahh, there is the tutorial. Glad you pointed out exactly how to get to it because it wasn't readil;y obvious where the tutorial was. Another non-intuitive thing they did on this software. Most software just has a Tutorial tab under the help tab. This is explained on page 5 of the manual, section 2....

Re: Incredibly frustrated..
Work through the built in lessons. Not being able to use the video and Live together is probably a driver issue. One program grabs the driver and if the driver isn't able to work with more than program at a time then the next program can't use it. Asio4all might help, but I'm not sire about that.

Re: What is "Chain Selector Filters Midi Ctrl " ?
I think this is mentioned in 17.5.4 Chain Select Zones. Page 211 of the manual. I was just reading about it. It allows you to filter cc messages.

Re: Well, what is Max for Live ? Does it need Max ?
Max for live is a combined programming environment and runtime environment. It is based on the MAX system which is also a programming environment and runtime environment, but it is limited to only working when you have Live running on your machine. So, you can write programs in the programming envri...

Re: saving instruments - strange locations
I think this is how I accidentally over-wrote a M4L library device. It is counterintuitive. In every other computing situation I can think of if you save something to a new location then the next save goes to the new location, not the original one. It seems like a bad design to me.

Thanks. I see these now. I was confused and thought you were referring to calls to API functions.

I haven't come across these in Max yet. How do I access them?kleine wrote:No need for that - the good old "Max Api CtrlEnvFol" does it as well.
Available in any good API tools store...
p.s.: the "Max Api CtrlMIDInote" might be your friend as well.

Re-install Step Sequencer
I seem to have over-written my Step Sequencer that came with M4L with my own creation using the stepsequencer object. Can I obtain the original again?

Chapter 13 of the live 8 manual is about routing. 13.1 is about monitoring, which is what you are trying to do.

Re: a bit of help with ableton live installation...
It sounds like you have not installed the drivers for the Saffire properly, so when you try to use the Saffire in Live it gives an error message. Try uninstalling the Saffire drivers and reinstalling.

Select all the clips in the track and deselect warp for them all. I think that takes care of it.

Re: Great quality producing and playing music
You need to read about audio compression algorithms and lossy versus lossless compression. Mp3 loses data when it compresses the file so it will never be as accurate as the original file of samples.

Re: Control instrument
You can route CC messages to other tracks with something like Midi Yoke Yes, I remember doing that in the past. It just seems a bit perverse having to send messages out of Live and zthen route them straight back in again. However, I have now embraced the LOM which eliminates the need for such crazy...
