Re: I'm thinking of starting a course in programming - advice?

Start simple. The problem with more modern languages like Java, C++, C# is that you can easily get lost in the extensive libraries and the object-oriented ideas. I suggest learning C as your first language. If possible get a copy of Kernighan and Ritchie (K&R) and a free C compiler (find out what a ...

Re: Control instrument

Thanks for your reply. It seems that Live's MIDI routing does not allow CC messages to control devices in another track. I think I need to learn how to use the LOM as you suggest. David.

Re: Quitting job and get 100% into music, anyone did it?

You used the word "jump". Jumping can be dangerous if you can't see where you are likely to land. You might land in paradise, but in general life isn't like that. Your inner resistance is probably your innate wisdom. Work toward being able to easily "step" into something else.

The word amateur is derived from the Latin root amator: lover. Ableton is for lovers.

Re: Behringer FCB1010

G'day. I have one of these FCB1010s. I don't really follow what you are saying about megasets but... The FCB has 100 "presets". Each of these can be activated by pressing a footswitch (in Direct Select Mode) or by a combination of two footswitches (first selects a bank, second selects a preset withi...

Re: Collecting music software and gear you never use

...women in my area are averaging 17k more a year than I make. Not to be harsh, but it might be because those women are more focused on their actual careers instead of their hobbies that they someday hope will be a career but without really investing the energy and time necessary to make it a caree...

Re: Collecting music software and gear you never use

While looking through the thread "post your set up and sexy cat" (o something like that) I have been struck by the similarity between these environments and those that are created in poker machine establishments. Apparently part of the allure for poker machine addicts is the flashing lights and soun...

Re: Cheap multiple output external audio interface

I bought the device I mentioned above ( http://www.meritline.com/usb-5-1-channe ... 35243.aspx). Using the driver that came with the device (MME/DirectX) I can only see 2 channels in audio preferences. Using ASIO4ALL I can see 8 channels in audio preferences. But if I select all 8 channels as output...

Re: Soundcard Question

So i'm thinking of buying the Xone K2 which is a midi controller with a built in audio interface, i know you need a audio interface but i'm not sure why or what it really does? . What does an audio interface do? It provides an interface between your computer and your sound system . Do i just plug i...

Re: How to get really good at Music/Art

I find that I get better at things by having them constantly on my mind and also by practicing. For example, I paint pictures. I will only paint a picture if I "see" something in my mind and keep imagining it untill I get obsessed enough to actually paint it. Another example is that I have recently ...

Re: Cheap multiple output external audio interface

Here's something even cheaper http://www.meritline.com/usb-5-1-channel-sound-adapter-support-optical-spdif-output---p-35243.aspx. According to reviews it can be used with Live with the asio4all driver. I have found a local supplier selling it for NZ$28 so i will buy it and try. It seems to be based ...

US$110 on Amazon right now. NZ$157 at GuitarCentre
Is there anything else like this?

Re: Cheap multiple output external audio interface

Thanks for all the suggestions and no offense taken bicardone. The ESI u46XL looks good but I can't see any retailer in New Zealand yet. I really only need the outputs though, not phantom power (nice name though), HiZ, preamps etc.
