MORE DAW FEATURES!!

I would dearly love to see Live take more influence from Kyma or Max . I really hate to see Live become another (if not improved) DAW. I read this as 'Live should be for electronic music only'. Personally I want Live to be a great electronic music program as well as a something I can record a band ...

From what I can see it's missing. Multiple take comping (the only real reason I switched to Logic, makes recording vocals and guitar solos so much easier and even they havnt quite got it right as it's very buggy). OMF support - a way to easiy move between DAWS. For many they are stuck with one progr...

Comping?

One of the things I would love to see in Live is the ability to comp multi-takes. If there is a way to do this it would be great to know. For vocals being able to do multiple takes in one tack then easily splicing them together into one take would be wonderful. It would be good to see some love on t...

Not a vital thing really. It's more fiddly but if you want to move all faders at once you can just send their output to another channel. So if you're recording drums create a track called 'all drums' and then set the send to 'all drums' and bingo - one fader to rule them all.

Thanks for the replies. I checked out Peak and it does do what I want to do, but is somewhat expensive (even in Lite form). Thinking about it more applying effects directly to clips rather then relying upon automation end evelopes could be said to achive the same result but I'm currently finding the...

Ableton - Make us a sound editor!

Dear Ableton, Once upon a time I was a PC user and used Sound Forge, which was okay and I used it for mastering and doing the kind of messing about in sound you can only really do in a sound editor. Well time moves on and now I'm a Mac user (please no comments on this - well all many have a preferen...

Re: ...the big question...

Actually, on the whole I'd argue Arrange SHOULD be there more as a backup to session, but it should go MORE in that direction and make it alot easier to record and edit in a non-linear session kind of way I'm sure what you're using Live for means you probably live in session view. I've used it a fe...

Re: Ableton 7 - I can't see a reason to upgrade.

[quote="zaphodb"] Ableton Live is very, very deceptive. It can do all of the things that you talk about and more. And it can do them well, in many cases much better than the traditional "DAW" apps like Cubase or Logic. The reason is that Live has a revolutionary interface that is actually quite deep...

Better zooming has been added. It goes a lot smoother now. Solo now works with groups. You can quickly move around using the new "View Panning" feature. Bit of background. I'm using 6 on mac at the moment. I'd be interested in more details about the above. Does Ableton now zoom vertically? Are grou...

Ableton 7 - I can't see a reason to upgrade.

I love ableton but always thought that as a DAW it's a bit fiddly. Live it's great, fantastic if you're a DJ and wonderful for doing loop dance stuff - but if you need to record a real band and mix it, well there's a bunch of stuff that Live never was quite able to do, like easily group tracks, quic...

I agree to what you say about the arrange view and I never use that myself, only the session view. The word "just" here means "the only thing you have to do is..." ie. easy. I find zooming precise and fast and I don't know how it could be better. Still, like you I am a little disappointed that ther...

But zooming horrizontally is SO easy and quick i Live. Just point your mouse cursor at the Beat time ruler which is the area above all the tracks until you see a magnifying glass, click and pull up or/and down... I always get worried when instructions include the word 'just'. Yes you can do this bu...

Re: You can group - kinda.

You can group / mute and almost solo tracks.... the issue is more about soloing and hiding really - yes you can already group tracks but it is infuriating when you want to solo that group and likewise if you have a whole kit grouped to one track, that is alot of screen real estate and you can spen ...

Re: Begging and pleading

This is exactly the functionality I've been searching for in my current project (my first real one with Live). For a while I thought I was just missing it, that it was somehow hidden but still there. Being able to mix down drums, for instance, maintaining the separate tracks for each instrument whi...

You can group - kinda.

You can group / mute and almost solo tracks. The solo doesnt differenciate between a grouped track and other tracks so you have to solo the group track AND the track/tracks you want to hear. You can also just switch the tracks on and off. All this is long winded but gets the result, It could be easi...
