Re: Recording drums with 3 mics...?

If you only have a kick and snare, natural stereo isn't really 1) gonna work an 2) necessary. Why would you want either a kick or snare panned?! You could apply some gentle autopan on the cymbals... If recording drums in mono doesn't quite sound right the problem is not in the stereo field. Position...

Re: Recording drums with 3 mics...?

you could start off by putting a mic on the kick, one on the snare and the third... you guessed it. Cymbals!

Re: Anyone using Live in theatre productions?

Well, I agree routing through a hardware mixer is a good idea - and have audio backup via MD or CD if you are really worried. If the theater doesn't have a UPS, bring yr own for your system! Yes, disable WIFI, internet, firewall etc etc just have the system purely for the job at hand. If you have a...

Re: Anyone using Live in theatre productions?

nice to hear that so many others out there are using it. id be curious to hear other tips for keeping a stable, crash free setup. my routine usually looks like this: - not use too many 3rd party plugs - restart right before performance - always carry osx system dvd - backup to time machine the as m...

Re: Anyone using Live in theatre productions?

I also do the design process almost entirely within Live, but the cue stack programming is another game for me. I don't use any 3rd party plugins during show and Live runs along Qlab on a dedicated machine and still, a couple of times I ran into serious problems. Once I lost sound output through the...

Sweet. What theatre is this? In which country?
Don't see this kind of setup 'in-house' very often.

Re: Anyone using Live in theatre productions?

Hello folks. Cheers for your replies. Since my original post I have found my ideal setup integrating Live with QLab and Yamaha digital sound desk. The productions I work on tend to have fairly complex cue systems with live instruments, radio mics, multiple sound cue playback with different fade time...

Re: how to fade in ( over more than one audio clip)

You could also use the 'unlink' function in the clip itself and have independent control of the fade envelope over the length of the clip.

Here's a pretty good idea.

Re: spectrum analyser

Judging a mix by what it looks like on a spectrum analyser is no different than judging a painting by what it sounds like hanging on a wall... This forum ain't gonna give you the answer.

Re: Arpeggiator & Ableton : Detroit/Deep Techno/House

You can get some sick percussion patterns if you put multiple arps in a rack with different settings on each. Have a play adding midi effects to the mix like velocity, note length etc plugins. The real fun begins when you make your percussion instruments (Collision is my favourite but Sampler works ...

Any english native lx designers/sound engineers in Berlin?

I am moving myself and family to Berlin next March. I have a semi-decent career built up in London as a lighting designer/technician and technical director and although I have no hesitation in leaving that behind, I would like to believe I won't have to start from zero in Berlin. My german is curren...

Re: Advice on setting up for a HUGE sound system

there's no need to compress neither your master nor your sends. You can put a limiter on them as a safety net, mainly for you, not the speakers. If like you say the sound system will be huge, you can be fairly certain the engineers aren't going to leave it in your hands. They will have enough limite...
