Re: Live not running much faster than my old laptop on a Mac Pro

It is enabled, all obvious things like that have been done. I am an experienced user. Thanks anyways though...

Live not running much faster than my old laptop on a Mac Pro

I am having a major issue with Ableton. I just bought a used Mac Pro Computer (2008, 2.8 GHz 8-Core 6 GB RAM) in hopes that I would get better performance than my 2008 Macbook (not Pro) (2.4 Ghz 4GB RAM, Core2Duo). I assumed that this new computer (which was very expensive) would show a marked impro...

db

Am I correct that db levels are logarithmic so if I turn down two tracks that are at different levels -23 db each they will be the same level relative to each other as they were originally?

Internal Levels?

Do internal levels matter when recording material from one Ableton track to another? What about resampling, do the internal levels matter then? I am recording off of one track onto another and the levels are really low, but I have already mixed them in with the song perfectly. Is it going to affect ...

Re: What to look for in a new computer

Is it worth it to get an 8-core or will the difference between that and a 4-core be negligible when working with ableton?

Re: Fixing Glitches

Does anyone know what could be causing these glitches? I have only used Pro Tools before this which automatically stops recording whenever an error occurs, so I am wondering, is this normal for a non-digidesign sequencer to have random errors in the waveform (since the software and hardware aren't t...

What to look for in a new computer

I am about to buy a used Mac Pro. What are the most important specs to look for if I am only going to use it for audio production (ableton and reason mainly with lots of plugins (waves and otherwise)). How important is RAM compared to CPU? I found an 8-core computer but it only has 4 Gigs of RAM and...

Fixing Glitches

I occasionally get these little glitches in the waveform that cause clicks when I record into Ableton. I'm assuming this is from my computer's CPU being overloaded (correct me if I'm wrong). Does anyone know a good resource or tool for fixing these. I just got a perfect take but there's a little cli...

Re: Toggle Midi NOTES?!

Wow, you know I somehow forgot that notes can be used to MIDI map. Good point... Thanks man!

Toggle Midi NOTES?!

I want to be able to toggle MIDI notes on a Midi keyboard (or anything) so that I can play groove elements in my stylus RMX live without having to hold down the keys, is there any way to do this other than finding some slender heavy object to place on the keys?

Re: Bit depth vs. audio interface

Isn't ableton going to convert samples that you put into it even when set to 16 bit?

Re: Technical question about internal gain staging

That would take ages comparatively since they automated the shit out of everything. Am I really raising a noise floor when all of the sounds are coming from software synths and reason? I thought they didn't really have much of a noise floor, as would be the case with analog sources, since they are j...

Bit depth vs. audio interface

If I have a 24 bit 96Khz recording interface (apogee Duet). Am I losing sound quality by recording at 16/44.1 in Ableton? Can you change the bit depth of a song half-way through it?

Technical question about internal gain staging

I am mixing a piece that uses loads of softsynths as well as a Rewired Reason but they are all mixed at very low levels for some reason. As a result, the final mix is only taking up about 25% of the master level meter. I figured I would put a utility plugin on the master and crank up the gain... Is ...
